The College of Performing Arts, a college of The New School, invites candidates for a full-time faculty with tenure or renewable-term appointment at the rank of Professor or Associate Professor (rank commensurate with experience) of Composition for Film and New Media at Mannes School of Music to begin July 1, 2025. Applicants with significant creative practice and currency in the field will be considered.

The candidate of choice will be an outstanding composer, scholar, and educator deeply centered in work for film and new media. They must show evidence of innovation in their pedagogical approaches and be forward-thinking about what skills and knowledge are required to empower students to succeed in today’s creative fields and economies.
The position is split between 50% teaching, 20% creative practice, and 30% service. They will teach five courses per year or the equivalent in load hours and will be assigned service in areas of need that align with interest and expertise where possible. The full or associate professor will provide teaching and leadership in film scoring, composition for new media, creative technology, multidisciplinary collaboration, recording, and other areas of the College’s required curriculum as well as private instruction. The professor or associate professor of composition for film and new media will work with students from diverse backgrounds and from a variety of disciplines across the college, including students from both the Mannes School of Music and the School of Jazz and Contemporary Music. Along with their teaching and service responsibilities, this faculty member will also continue to demonstrate an outstanding record of achievement and recognition in their creative practice.
The terms and conditions of faculty appointments are governed by The New School policies set forth in The New School Full-Time Faculty Handbook. All hiring is subject to final provost budgetary approval.

Associate Professor: $95,000 - $115,000 annually
Full Professor: $115,000 - $135,000 annually

Minimum Qualifications
- A compelling portfolio of composition for film and new media, including feature films, documentaries, commercial work, and emergent practices.
- Extensive knowledge of the film and new media industry, including networks of directors, producers, studios, publishers, and agents.
- Fluency in current technology, including DAWs and commonly used software.
- Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience, with advanced degrees preferred.
- Prior teaching experience at university level.
- Active creative or teaching practice and significant currency in the field.
- Ability to develop and nurture individual student’s progress and a strong commitment to creative education models.
- Excellent communication skills.
- Excellent interpersonal and organizational skills, including the ability to meet deadlines, communicate and motivate effectively.
- The ideal candidate will deepen our capacities in equity, inclusion, and social justice through their teaching and practice.
