The New Group

Usher (Part-Time)

Reporting to the Box Office & Audience Services Supervisor, the Usher plays a key role in creating a safe, welcoming space for our audiences and artists. This is a temporary, part-time position with shifts to take place between early-October and mid-December 2026. Up to three (3) training shifts will be required between September 28th and October 11th with the performance shifts beginning October 13th.

Founded in 1995, The New Group is an award-winning, artist-driven company with a commitment to developing and producing powerful, contemporary theater. In addition to producing Off-Broadway productions, the organization champions original works through its New Group/New Works play and musical development program. The New Group also operates an acting conservatory and a tuition-free college access program.

Primary Responsibilities of the Usher include:

● Provide engaged customer service.

● Facilitate audience entry and egress.

● Scan tickets.

● Distribute programs.

● Greet and seat latecomers.

● Monitor the seating area for safety concerns.

● Provide on-site coverage for special events including talkbacks and open-captioned performances.

● Understand and follow The New Group’s front of house policies and procedures.

● Other duties as assigned.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

● Outstanding customer service skills and friendly demeanor.

● Ability to understand and follow procedures and the wisdom to know when to escalate matters to a supervisor.

● Ability to communicate verbally in a clear, professional and patient manner.

● Previous experience with front of house for a performance venue encouraged but not required.

● Ability to move throughout the premises, including navigating multiple levels, to provide an attentive presence.

● Current Certificate of Fitness (F-03) Indoor Place of Assembly Safety Personnel preferred, but not required.

The rate pay for the Usher is $18.00/hour. This is a temporary, part-time, hourly position with night & weekend availability required. Ushers generally work between two and three performances per week, depending on availability, during production.

● Performances are generally scheduled in the evenings Tuesday - Sunday with additional matinee performances on Saturdays, with some exceptions.

● All Usher shifts take place on-site at the Theater at St. Clement’s.
