What are the responsibilities and job description for the Waitstaff position at The Nest Noco?
Waitstaff / Server
The Nest | Mount Washington Valley, New Hampshire
The Nest is looking for confident, polished waitstaff to join our opening team and help create an elevated but welcoming guest experience.
We are building a small, highly curated hospitality concept centered around thoughtful food, craft cocktails, an extensive wine program, beautiful presentation, and warm, attentive service.
Our goal is not formal or stiff service. We want the experience to feel elegant, relaxed, knowledgeable, and genuine.
The right person will know how to carry themselves with confidence, read a table, communicate clearly, and make guests feel cared for without being overly scripted or intrusive.
The Role
Our servers will be an important part of what makes The Nest feel special.
Because our menu is intentionally small and curated, guests may have questions about ingredients, pairings, cocktails, and wine. We want our waitstaff to be comfortable guiding those conversations in a way that feels natural and approachable.
You do not need to arrive as a wine expert.
We will provide training and education around our wine program, menu, and beverage offerings. What matters most is that you are curious, engaged, and willing to learn.
What You'll Be Responsible For
Responsibilities will include:
- Providing warm, polished, and attentive table service
- Greeting guests confidently and making them feel immediately welcome
- Understanding the food, cocktail, and wine menus
- Explaining menu items clearly and accurately
- Learning the basics of wine service, varietals, regions, styles, and pairings
- Making thoughtful recommendations based on guest preferences
- Presenting and serving wine properly
- Taking orders accurately and communicating effectively with the kitchen and bar
- Monitoring tables without hovering
- Anticipating guest needs before they have to ask
- Maintaining clean, organized, and beautifully presented tables
- Assisting with opening and closing duties
- Helping maintain the overall cleanliness and presentation of the dining room
- Working closely with the bartender, kitchen, and other team members
- Handling guest questions or concerns calmly and professionally
- Helping create a consistently high-quality experience from the moment a guest arrives until they leave
- Knowledge of Square POS
Our Wine Program
Wine will be an important part of The Nest.
We plan to offer a carefully selected and extensive wine program, and our servers will receive training so they can speak confidently about what we offer.
Training may include:
- Major wine varietals
- Wine regions and styles
- How to describe wine in approachable language
- Basic food and wine pairing
- Proper wine presentation and service
- Understanding differences in body, acidity, tannin, sweetness, and structure
- How to help a guest choose a bottle without making the experience feel intimidating
We do not expect every server to become a sommelier.
We do expect our team to become knowledgeable enough to guide guests with confidence and enthusiasm.
Our ideal service style is gracious, confident, informed, and relaxed.
Guests should feel that their server knows what they are doing, understands the menu, and is paying attention—but they should never feel rushed, pressured, or talked down to.
We want servers who can explain a wine without making someone feel inexperienced, recommend a dish without overselling it, and recognize when a guest wants conversation and when they would prefer privacy.
That level of awareness is a major part of the role.
A Small Team With High Standards
The Nest is a startup, and our opening team will be small.
That means every person matters.
We are looking for people who are comfortable taking initiative, helping one another, and caring about the overall guest experience rather than only their individual responsibilities.
