Job Description - Catering Coordinator
Location: The Nautical Mile Employment Type: Hourly, Non-Exempt
Compensation: $20.00 per hour, plus 100% of delivery fees and customer tips

In accordance with the Massachusetts Pay Transparency Act, the pay rate for this position is $20.00 per hour. Additional compensation includes 100% delivery fees and customer tips, which are retained entirely by the Catering Coordinator and their departmental employees.
Position Overview
The Nautical Mile is seeking an energetic and detail-oriented Catering Coordinator to lead the planning, execution, and delivery of exceptional catering services. This role is responsible for the preparation, coordination, and delivery of catering orders while maintaining high standards of food quality, safety, and customer service. In this role, you will coordinate with clients, manage logistics, and ensure every event runs smoothly from start to finish. Your enthusiasm and organizational skills will drive customer satisfaction and help us deliver memorable coffee and culinary experiences.
This position is classified as non-exempt and is eligible for overtime pay in accordance with applicable federal and Massachusetts wage and hour laws.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Collaborate with clients to understand their catering needs, preferences, and budgets, providing tailored solutions
- Develop relationships with business partners and other customers in order to reach sales targets and continually grow the department
- Create accurate pricing proposals and quotes based on menu selections, event size, and special requests.
- Assistant with managing/overseeing the company’s social media platforms
- Coordinate delivery routes to ensure timely setup and service at multiple event locations, adhering to safety and traffic regulations.
- Communicate clearly and professionally with customers regarding order details, delivery times, and special requests
- Maintain cleanliness, organization, and sanitation of catering, preparation, and storage areas
- Assist with additional operational duties during non-catering periods, including:
Qualifications and Requirements
- Valid driver’s license with a satisfactory driving record
- Reliable access to a vehicle suitable for catering deliveries
- Strong organizational and time-management skills
- Excellent customer service and communication skills
- Ability to lift, carry, and transport catering equipment and supplies
- Dependability, punctuality, and flexibility to meet business needs
- Experience in a bakery-cafe/coffee shop is a 100% requirement
- Knowledge of social media applications and websites is preferred
- Experience in logistics is a plus for planning efficient routes and managing supplies
Compensation and Wage Information
- Hourly wage of $20.00, paid in compliance with Massachusetts wage payment laws
- Employee retains 100% delivery fees and customer tips, as required under the Massachusetts Tips Act
- Overtime compensation at one and one-half (1.5) times the regular rate of pay for hours worked over 40 in a workweek (a workweek will be considered Sunday through Saturday)
- Meal breaks provided in accordance with Massachusetts labor law (1-30 minute break for every 6 consecutive hours worked)
- Payroll records and wage statements maintained in compliance with state requirements
Work Schedule
- Schedule varies based on catering volume and operational needs (typically 4 weekdays 1 weekend shift)
- Availability for mornings, weekends, and peak catering periods may be required
