The Finance Specialist supports the Director of Finance and Operations, and provides highly specialized finance/accounting-related services to the Global Science business unit. The Finance Specialist also acts independently to manage the finances of several programs within the business unit, including the Science for Nature and People Partnership (SNAPP). The Global Science business unit is home to TNC’s One Conservancy Science Program (OCSP), which integrates and connects TNC’s 1,000 science staff across the globe. The Global Science team is comprised of scientists and staff who develop and coordinate programs and resources to support TNC’s conservation efforts across the organization. We also cultivate and engage world-class universities in partnerships that help bring global expertise in diverse disciplines to our conservation challenges.
We’re Looking For You
The Finance Specialist provides general financial, accounting, and information management services for Global Science teammates. This includes collaborating on proposals, coordinating the development of budgets and forecasts, tracking and analyzing actuals and variances, maintaining and supporting accounting activities and system processes, preparing reports for staff and donors, coordinating payables with contracts, subawards and other agreements, and ensuring that best practices and organizational policies and commitments are met accurately and timely. They will provide a high level of expertise in private grant management and financial guidance and assistance to Program Directors and Managers related to proposals, grants, reporting, and budget management, and will respond to complex employee/management questions and problems based on advanced knowledge of the subject area. They will expeditiously and courteously respond to or route various inquiries from internal and external partners. The duties of the Finance Specialist may expand to support additional aspects of global programs, as requested. This position requires high-level discretion, the ability to assess issues, advise on best practices, make autonomous decisions, respond to complex questions, and know when to escalate issues to management. A strong sense of customer service is essential. The Finance Specialist will report to the Director of Finance and Operations.

This position may be based in any country where TNC has an established entity, taking into consideration legal restrictions, such as non-national ratios and immigration processing times. For U.S. based applicants only, the starting pay range for this position is generally within the range of $58,820 –$88,145 for annual base salary and is based on location, qualifications, specific skills, and experience. This range only applies to candidates whose country of employment is the USA. For all other applicants, pay ranges will be in local currency, the pay range will be based on the local labor market, and not tied to the above pay range. Your geographic location will be confirmed during the recruitment and used to determine your actual pay range. Additionally, for all applicants, actual pay will fall within a range based on a variety of factors including, for example, the candidate’s qualifications, specific skills, and experience.

What You’ll Bring
- Bachelor’s degree and 3 years' related experience or equivalent combination.
- Experience with accounting/financial issues and analysis.
- Experience using accounting and financial reporting systems.
- Technical experience with spreadsheet programs, general ledger reports and financial management tools.
- Experience with GAAP and fund accounting principles, practices and regulations.
- Degree includes a formal program of study in accounting, finance, business administration, or related fields.
- Multi-lingual skills and/or multi-cultural experience appreciated.
- Ability to manipulate, analyze and interpret data. Advanced expertise in Microsoft Excel.
- Strong organizational skills.
- Accuracy, attention to detail, and the ability to multi-task.
- Experience presenting financial information to cross-functional teams, board members and high-level donors.
