Summer Youth Program Coordinator

The Nature Connection
Concord, MA Full Time
POSTED ON 5/19/2026
AVAILABLE BEFORE 7/15/2026

About The Nature Connection

The Nature Connection is a nonprofit organization that brings nature-based programs to youth, elders, and individuals with disabilities across eastern Massachusetts. Our year-round work is rooted in trauma-informed, person-centered practices that foster well-being and build meaningful connections with the natural world.

In the summer, our traveling youth programs shift gears! Our focus is on curiosity, exploration, and joy—inviting kids to get their hands dirty, try new things, and discover nature in playful and creative ways.

Position Summary

We are seeking a dynamic, energetic Summer Youth Programs Coordinator to lead engaging, nature-based programs for large groups of youth (ages 5–13) at day camps, housing programs, and community centers. The ideal candidate loves working with kids, thrives in outdoor settings, and can manage and inspire a group of 20 youth with creativity, calm, and confidence.

This is not your typical camp counselor role—this position involves bringing structured-yet-playful nature experiences to youth who may or may not otherwise have access to the outdoors. You’ll be supported by our year-round program staff, with plenty of opportunities to bring your own flair to programming.

This is a temporary position for the summer months of mid June - August. Days & hours per week depend on programs scheduled.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead weekly nature-based programs (ocean exploration, animal track investigations, flower dissections, nature journaling activities, etc.) for groups of 20 youth in a variety of settings
  • Facilitate hands-on activities, games, and explorations that spark curiosity and fun
  • Adapt activities to different age groups, energy levels, and program spaces (indoor/outdoor)
  • Collaborate with other Nature Connection staff to deliver high-quality experiences
  • Set up and break down program materials; transport supplies as needed
  • Ensure physical and emotional safety of all participants
  • Communicate effectively with program partners and site staff

Ideal Candidate Qualifications

  • Experience working with children or youth in educational, camp, or community settings
  • Comfort leading large groups in dynamic environments
  • Strong presence, positive energy, and excellent group management skills
  • Creativity and flexibility—able to adapt on the fly while staying grounded
  • Enthusiasm for nature, play, and outdoor learning (naturalist skills a plus but not required)
  • Ability to get to The Nature Connection office (located in Concord, MA); a company vehicle is provided for travel to program sites or if use of personal vehicle is needed mileage is reimbursed
  • Valid driver’s license and clean driving record required
  • CORI/SORI check required
  • Mondays July 7-Aug 4th required, and another day of the week (likely Thursdays or Fridays) July - Aug.
  • Ability to lift up to 25 lbs and work outside in a variety of weather conditions

Training and program plans are provided. Join us in making a positive impact on the lives of young people in our community!
