Job Summary
The Payroll Specialist is detail oriented and driven to contribute to the Company’s growth and success by serving as the processor of all payroll related matters. This position is responsible for being a content expert in UKG payroll, managing payroll and time entry related processes for Nassau employees and its affiliates and consistently analyze current processes and determine appropriate ways of improving efficiencies through enhanced solutions and workflows. This position must ensure accurate, timely, and compliant delivery of all related payroll functions and reconcile payroll closing and manage payroll funding. Works with UKG to resolve day-to-day issues for payroll and time entries. Manages time and attendance module, ensuring that attendance and overtime is properly recorded and paid.
Acts as liaison with state, local and federal agencies as needed. Ensures timely and accurate reporting to state or local agencies for filings not handled by UKG. Works with UKG regarding tax inquiries and filing requirements.
Principal Duties and Responsibilities
- Manages all aspects of payroll processing including researching and resolving discrepancies.
- Ensures payroll compliance by demonstrating skills in assessing, implementing, managing payroll law changes in UKG.
- Works with UKG on a day-to-day basis to resolve issues, set up new earnings/deductions, new company codes, and any other system maintenance.
- Executes and reconciles end of period processing.
- Inputs changes to employee records including adjustments, manual checks, deductions, ACH transfers, stops/voids/reissues.
- Calculates withholding information, termination pay and deductions for manual checks.
- Coordinates and administers Wage Garnishment orders according to federal and state regulations.
- Computes and records all Fringe Benefit entries to update employees’ records and associated accounting entries.
- Works with federal, state and local agencies to remit tax withholding. Provides required reporting to local, state and federal agencies accurately and timely. Works with UKG to resolve tax withholding inquires.
- Determines tax liabilities for all stock related entries needed to ensure compliance with federal and state legislation.
- Balances current payroll tax and taxable earnings to the year-to-date W-2 box totals and resolves variances to minimize year-end corrections.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
- Associate’s degree in accounting or business, or a related field, Bachelor’s degree preferred and 3 -5 years of related experience
- Extensive knowledge and understanding of payroll accounting and balancing procedures
- Ability to research, evaluate, analyze and implement payroll system improvements in UKG.
- Expertise working with UKG
- Technical expertise in federal and state tax legislation and labor laws
- Proficient in Microsoft applications such as Word, Excel and Access
- Effective problem solver, able to analyze and resolve issues with appropriate references and resources
- Must be an independent thinker and motivated self-starter
- Able to grasp and adapt to new concepts and technologies
- Skilled in customer service to handle payroll inquiries in difficult one on one situation

The base salary for this position falls within Nassau’s salary band D: $55,000-$105,000 depending upon experience.
