Organizational Background

The Nashville Food Project (TNFP) was born from the idea that good food is a matter of basic dignity. Since its start in 2007, TNFP has served thousands of Nashvillians facing food insecurity. In 2011, TNFP was incorporated as an independent nonprofit, shifting the focus of its meals program toward a collaborative partnership model and launching an urban agriculture program. Today, TNFP continues to connect people to nourishing food and to each other through vibrant urban agriculture projects, made-from-scratch meals, and food shared with local partners working to disrupt cycles of poverty.

Position Summary

The Community Agriculture Engagement Coordinator (CAEC) supports TNFP’s community agriculture programs by coordinating education, communication, and grower engagement eff orts across all sites. Reporting to the Community Agriculture Network Manager (CANM), the CAEC oversees the annual plot enrollment and onboarding process; develops and distributes communications for the Community Agriculture Network (CAN); and serves as the primary point of contact for growers at the Community Farm at Mill Ridge and McGruder Community Garden. The CAEC coordinates and facilitates weekly garden workdays and volunteer engagement activities, arranges interpretation and translation services as needed, and supports the planning and facilitation of key garden events and workshops, including season opening days and grower meetings. This role also contributes to community outreach eff orts to connect aspiring growers and partner organizations with opportunities for leadership and cultivation within CAN gardens.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

Program Coordination & Administration (60%)

  • Implement the annual garden plot enrollment and onboarding process for all sites, ensuring clear communication with growers about plot allocation, fees, rules and regulations, policies, logistics and fee collection
  • Coordinate and facilitate annual and quarterly grower meetings and community workdays in collaboration with the CANM
  • Support coordination of seasonal workshops and/or community events, including supporting planning logistics, developing and sharing communication materials, and day-of support
  • Support coordination and facilitation of steward events to engage garden leaders, growers, and partners in community building, goal setting, and networking activities
  • Implement a communications plan in collaboration with the CANM to share updates with growers and stewards on a regular basis
  • Support community outreach and recruitment eff orts, including tabling, presentations, and meeting attendance, to connect growers and aspiring growers with opportunities to lead and grow at CAN gardens
  • Coordinate language interpretation and translation for the Community Agriculture Network to ensure events, programmatic activities, and site information are linguistically accessible
  • Ensure interpretation and translation hours are tracked and entered for timely payment
  • Coordinate payments to contract interpreters and translators by ensuring project hours are tracked and entered into TNFP’s payment portal on a timely basis
  • Post volunteer workday opportunities at TNFP demonstration sites and CAN partner sites on TNFP’s volunteer management platform
  • Collect and track garden volunteer and feedback data at TNFP demonstration sites
  • Support the CAN impact tracking and reporting process, including supporting the CANM in collecting programmatic metrics and participation surveys on a regular basis

Agricultural Operations & Engagement (40%)

  • Support the facilitation of at least 1-2 weekly events at TNFP demonstration sites aimed at establishing consistent rapport and community-building, including volunteer and community workdays, grower office hours, workshops and community meetings, and other occasional weekend events
  • Collaborate with the Community Agriculture team to coordinate and facilitate large seasonal events, including Opening Day and Welcoming Week, among others
  • Support the CANM and Volunteer Engagement Manager in coordinating and facilitating one-off , special project volunteer days in collaboration with partner sites
  • Support TNFP demonstration sites and CAN partner sites as needed (e.g., soil preparation, compost maintenance, pest management, weeding, mowing, watering, harvesting)

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • 1 years experience in farm or garden maintenance
  • 2 years experience in program coordination, communication, and/or administration
  • Self-starter with the ability to work independently and collaboratively
  • Proven ability to manage multiple workstreams, tasks, and priorities simultaneously
  • Ability to work and communicate effectively with people of diverse backgrounds
  • Ability to establish and maintain positive working relationships with diverse communities including nonprofits, volunteers and the general public
  • Cooperative work ethic and a positive attitude; hard-working, conscientious, and responsible
  • Well organized with attention to detail, record keeping and time management skills
  • Willingness and ability to work in all types of weather (hot, rainy, and cold)
  • Excellent written, oral, and electronic communication skills
  • English fluency, oral and written
  • Ability to regularly lift and move at least 40 pounds

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • High school diploma/equivalent or relevant life experience
  • Experience in teaching and facilitation and/or a willingness to grow those skills
  • Experience in community engagement and organizing
  • Immigrants, refugees, and people of color are strongly encouraged to apply

CLASSIFICATION

This is a full-time, exempt salaried position at 40 hours/week. Regular weekend and evening hours are required. The grade of this position in the TNFP Compensation Policy is 35E.

COMPENSATION & BENEFITS

Starting annual salary for this role is $45,000-47,000, commensurate with experience. TNFP offers a competitive benefits package for full time employees including:
