This is a Seasonal position up to 35 hours/week, with an anticipated end date of 9/12/2026. 

Summary

The Store Sales Associates provide the highest level of customer service to guests of The Museum of Flight. As a front line staff member, the Store Sales Associate welcomes guests to the Museum experience, assists customers in store purchases, and provides the public with a positive impression. This position performs all activities associated with the Museum store floor operation which includes cashiering, stocking merchandise, and ensuring store cleanliness. The Store Sales Associate II works in the main store, as well as other exit stores, event stores, and pop-up stores on the Museum campus, as needed. At times they may be asked to work events off the Museum main campus. The Store Sales Associate II assists with daily closing procedures and plays a leading role in other operational procedures such as preparing signage and merchandising.  Store Sales Associate II are expected to be an example of excellent customer service to new staff members. 

 

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

Following is a summary of the essential functions for this job. Other duties may be performed both major and minor, which are not mentioned below. Specific activities may change from time to time.

 

  1. Provide warm, friendly, and informative customer service when assisting visitors in person and on the phone.
  2. Ring in sales efficiently and accurately including cash and credit card transactions.
  3. Be knowledgeable about and answer questions regarding store merchandise and inventory, the Museum collection, daily Museum events, Museum membership levels, education programs, facility rental opportunities, and customer involvement by becoming a Museum member, volunteer, docent or donor.
  4. Assist with daily closing procedures, including counting out registers and running reports.
  5. May help prepare the store for opening including morning cash procedures, creates a daily task sheet and holding a morning meeting.
  6. Under direction of the store leadership team, create and update store signage.
  7. Keep the Store and work area clean, orderly, stocked, and safe. Clean glass doors, windows, shelves, and merchandise, being aware of safety hazards and guidelines.
  8. Attend museum wide All Hands Meetings and trainings as assigned. Keep current on museum communication including e-mails, newsletters, and information shared at team meetings. 
  9. Perform other duties as assigned by the Store leadership team.

 

Qualifications

 

Education & Experience

  • High School Diploma or GED required.
  • 1 year of customer service experience required.

 

Knowledge

  • Understands basic customer service concepts and behaviors.
  • Knowledge of cashiering, Point of Sale (POS) systems, and cash handling.

 

Skills

  • Displays courteous and friendly demeanor; able to direct and assist guests.
  • Demonstrates good interpersonal/communication skills.
  • Cash handling and counting back change. Skilled with learning new computer systems.
  • Professional phone/radio etiquette skills.

 

Abilities

  • Ability to work with a diverse population that includes clients, staff, volunteers and other stakeholders.

  • Must be able to work flexible hours and requires being available on various days throughout the work week, including evenings, weekends and holidays.
  • This is a flexible 30-34 hour workweek position and requires being available to work days, evenings, weekends and holidays.
  • Any hours worked over 35 per week, must be preauthorized by your supervisor.

  • Must be able to lift up to 40 pounds, and stand on one’s feet for long periods of time.
  • Able to efficiently move to assist clients in various areas across the span of the campus in a timely manner.
  • This position requires, on occasion, to work outside and may work during inclement weather. 
  • Requires repetitive wrist movements resulting from cashiering. 
  • Other physical requirements include the ability to bend, twist, carry, reach, overhead reach, climb, push, pull, walk, stand, squat, and focus in a normal retail sales environment.

Compensation

The salary range for this position is $22.04 - $25.39 per hour depending on experience. Typically, a Store Sales Associate will start at $22.04 per hour.
