Position Overview
The Mountain Community School is seeking a dependable, student-centered Teacher Assistant to support students and teachers across our K–8 program. This role provides hands-on support in a variety of school settings and plays an important part in maintaining a structured, positive learning environment for students.
Teacher Assistants work closely with classroom teachers, EC staff, and school leadership to reinforce expectations, assist with instruction, and provide additional support for students when needed. Depending on school needs, the role may involve classroom support, student supervision during unstructured times, or targeted support for students who benefit from additional structure or behavioral guidance.
The ideal candidate is calm, flexible, relationship-driven, and enjoys working directly with students throughout the school day.
Primary Responsibilities
Classroom and Instructional Support
- Assist classroom teachers with daily instructional activities
- Work with small groups of students to reinforce academic skills and classroom routines
- Support students in staying organized, engaged, and on task during learning activities
- Help maintain a structured and productive classroom environment
Student Supervision and Support
- Support students during transitions, recess, and other unstructured times
- Reinforce schoolwide expectations for behavior and responsibility
- Help maintain a safe and positive environment throughout the school day
- Provide encouragement and guidance to students when challenges arise
Targeted Student Support
- Provide additional structure and guidance for students who benefit from extra support
- Assist with implementation of teacher-directed or EC behavior plans when appropriate
- Support students in returning successfully to learning activities following behavioral challenges
- Help reinforce consistent expectations across classrooms and school settings
Collaboration
- Work closely with classroom teachers, EC staff, and administration to support student success
- Maintain consistent communication regarding student needs and observations
- Participate in student support discussions when appropriate
- Contribute to a positive, team-oriented school culture
Qualifications
- Associate’s degree or bachelor’s degree preferred but not required
- Experience working with children in educational, youth services, childcare, or similar settings preferred
- Experience supporting students with behavioral or learning needs is helpful but not required
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills
- Ability to remain calm, consistent, and structured in a busy school environment
