Creative Marketing and Social Media Intern (NYC - Fall 2026)

New York, New York (Hybrid - 2 days/week in our NYC office) · Part-Time, Non-Exempt · Reports to the Associate Manager of Digital Content


Details

  • September 15 through December 18, 2026
  • 24 hours/week (final schedule set based on class availability), over 3-4 days, Monday-Friday
  • Hours also include approximately 2-3 evening live events per month for event coverage
  • Hybrid: meaningful in-person commitment on Tuesday and/or Wednesday, 10am-6pm; remote for remaining hours
  • Interns will be paired with a marketing team supervisor who will provide onboarding, regular check-ins, and ongoing feedback throughout the internship. You’ll receive structured mentorship and increasing creative responsibility as the internship progresses.
  • $17/hour $60/month transportation stipend

Overview

The Creative Marketing & Social Media Intern will gain hands-on, mentored experience in digital marketing and content creation by supporting The Moth's marketing team in bringing our brand to life across digital platforms.

Working closely with and under the mentorship of the marketing team, the intern will learn how to create content for Instagram, TikTok, YouTube, Facebook, LinkedIn, and other digital channels. You'll capture content at live events, edit video for social-first platforms; contribute creative ideas in a low-stakes, feedback-driven environment, build foundational experience in audience engagement, campaign execution, and brand marketing.

This internship is ideal for someone who is curious, creative, collaborative, and excited about the intersection of storytelling, culture, and digital media, and who is looking to develop professional marketing skills in a supportive setting.


What You’ll Learn

  • How a mission-driven nonprofit plans, executes, and measures social media and content campaigns
  • Short-form video editing techniques for Reels, TikTok, and YouTube Shorts, with feedback from experienced marketers
  • How to capture and produce content at live events, from planning through publishing
  • Foundations of content calendar planning and cross-platform brand voice
  • Basic performance analytics and how content decisions are informed by data
  • How creative ideas move from brainstorm to execution within a marketing team.


Responsibilities

Social Media & Content Creation

  • Learn to create and publish content across The Moth's social media platforms, including Instagram, TikTok, Facebook, LinkedIn, YouTube, and emerging channels, with review and guidance from the marketing team
  • Practice capturing photo and video content at live events, workshops, and other organizational programs
  • Develop editing skill by turning archival and newly captured footage into engaging short-form videos optimized for Reels, TikTok, and YouTube Shorts
  • Assist in and learn the process behind planning and maintaining the social media content calendar


Creative Marketing

  • Collaborate with the marketing team to brainstorm creative campaign ideas and content concepts in a mentorship-style setting
  • Gain introductory experience designing simple graphics and visual assets for social media and marketing materials as needed
  • Build research skills by exploring social media trends, creators, and cultural moments that could inspire new content or marketing opportunities
  • Support broader marketing initiatives and campaigns across live events, podcasts, and organizational priorities as a way of learning how marketing integrates across an organization


Analytics & Collaboration

  • Learn the basics of tracking social media and campaign performance, and how teams use data to identify content that resonates with audiences
  • Contribute ideas during team meetings and creative brainstorms
  • Support additional marketing and communications projects as assigned, gaining broader exposure to nonprofit marketing operations


Qualifications

Must-have

  • Current college student or recent graduate pursuing (or holding) a degree in Marketing, Communications, Media, Film, Journalism, or a related field
  • Excellent attention to detail and strong organizational skills
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Openness to feedback and comfortable working on multiple projects in a collaborative, fast-paced environment


Nice-to-have

  • Foundational short-form video editing skills (Adobe Premiere Pro required; CapCut experience is a plus) - we’ll build on these throughout the internship
  • Familiarity with Adobe Creative Suite
  • Some experience capturing photo and video content using DSLR or mirrorless cameras
  • Experience creating content for personal, student, freelance, or organizational social media accounts
  • Basic graphic design skills using Photoshop, Illustrator, or Canva
  • Portfolio showcasing social media, photography, video, or creative work
  • Comfortable appearing on camera or conducting informal interviews
  • Passion for storytelling, live events, public media, or mission-driven organizations.


Physical Requirements

  • Ability to operate camera equipment, which may involve holding/carrying gear
  • Ability to sit at a computer workstation for extended periods
  • Some standing, walking, or light lifting if the role involved on-location event coverage
  • Occasional local travel to event locations, if applicable
