What are the responsibilities and job description for the Director of Individual Giving position at The Morgan Library & Museum?

The Morgan Library & Museum (“the Morgan”) invites applications for the role of Director of Individual Giving in the Development Department. The Director of Individual Giving manages the cultivation and stewardship of members of the Morgan’s highest level patron groups (the Director’s Roundtable ($30,000 membership level) and the Association of Fellows ($2,500–$29,999)) and other major donors. This includes the solicitation, cultivation, and stewardship of the Annual Fund for Fellows and major donors as well as the growth and administration of the 1924 Society (planned giving). The Director of Individual Giving also oversees stewardship of giving related to campaigns and special projects, Visiting and Collectors Committees, acquisitions, and memorial and tribute gifts, as well as all related gift processing and correspondence. A passion for museum and/or library work is essential. This position reports to the Chief Advancement Officer (CAO).

Responsibilities

  • Identifying, cultivating, soliciting, and managing stewardship of members of the Director’s Roundtable and Association of Fellows.
  • Solidifying, expanding, and diversifying individual philanthropic support through management of an active portfolio of prospects and donors.
  • Working with the Director, CAO, and curators to identify and cultivate major donor prospects. Working with the Events team, managing all related donor events.
  • With the Director of Membership, coordinating Annual Fund mailings for high level donors.
  • Overseeing and actively growing the Morgan’s 1924 Society planned giving program, including through planning and implementation of at least one annual event for this group.
  • With the CAO, working with Finance to ensure year-end financial information is correct and to set goals and budgets for the upcoming fiscal year.
  • Ensuring that all individual gifts (including those for patron groups, capital campaigns and special projects, acquisitions, Visiting and Collectors committees, and memorial and tribute gifts) are properly processed and acknowledged.
  • Working with research team, leading strategy for related donor research and prospect development. Preparing relevant materials for meetings of the Morgan’s Board of Trustees and its Development Committee.
  • Reviewing related printed and digital development materials, including donor lists, invitations, the annual Report to Donors, e-mail newsletters, and other communications.
  • Working with the Events team to plan local and international travel for patron groups and major donors.
  • Coordinating with the Events team to help fundraise for annual benefit events.
  • Supporting the Institutional Advancement team with exhibition fundraising and special project funding.
  • Serving as an active ambassador and representative for the Morgan.

Qualifications

  • Experience working with a diverse donor base; familiarity with the New York philanthropic community preferred
  • Ability to develop relationships with donors to understand their needs and interests
  • Evidence of exceptional oral and written communication; attention to detail
  • Strong interpersonal skills
  • Ability to work collaboratively and strength as a manager
  • Strong project management skills: ability to work on a variety of projects simultaneously and to establish effective timelines for accomplishing long-range goals while completing all tasks on a timely basis
  • Knowledge of all modules of Raiser’s Edge NXT or other customer relationship management system (CRM)
  • A high degree of proficiency with Microsoft Office applications
  • Comfort working with budgets and financial documents
  • Willingness and ability to spend evenings and weekends at events as required
  • Bachelor’s required; graduate degree preferred
  • Minimum of seven years of increasing responsibility within Development
  • Experience at a cultural institution strongly preferred
  • Demonstrated ability to secure five- and six-figure gifts
  • Able to work for extended periods on the computer and to stand for extended periods of time during events

Salary : $110,000 - $120,000
