Description

The Montrose Center is seeking a dedicated and detail-oriented Grants Accountant to join our team. The Grants Accountant will play a crucial role in managing financial aspects related to grants and contracts awarded to the organization. This position requires meticulous attention to detail, strong analytical skills, and the ability to work collaboratively with various stakeholders. 


Responsibilities:

  • Provide comprehensive grant accounting and financial management support for all federal, state, local, and private grants; including budget tracking, financial reporting, compliance monitoring, and reimbursement processing in accordance with funder requirements. 
  • Prepare, review, and submit accurate and timely financial reports, invoices, and reimbursement requests to funding agencies; ensure all expenditures are allowable, allocable, and properly documented in accordance with grant agreements and applicable regulations. 
  • Maintain detailed grant budgets and track actual expenditures against approved budgets; analyze variances, identify potential risks or overspending, and communicate findings to program managers and leadership to support effective financial decision-making. 
  • Collaborate with program staff to develop grant budgets, monitor spending, and ensure alignment between program activities and financial reporting; provide guidance on allowable costs and funding restrictions. 
  • Reconcile grant-related general ledger accounts on a monthly basis; ensure accuracy of financial data within accounting systems and maintain organized supporting documentation for audit readiness. 
  • Monitor grant compliance with applicable regulations including Uniform Guidance (2 CFR Part 200) and specific grantor requirements; support internal and external audits by preparing schedules, documentation, and responding to auditor inquiries. 
  • Maintain a centralized grants calendar to track reporting deadlines, billing cycles, and key deliverables; proactively follow up to ensure timely submissions and compliance. 
  • Identify and resolve discrepancies in grant funding, billing, or reporting; escalate issues as needed and implement corrective actions to maintain compliance and financial integrity. 
  • Support the closeout of grants, including final financial reporting, reconciliation of expenditures, and ensuring all requirements are met prior to grant completion. 
  • Develop and improve internal controls, policies, and procedures related to grant accounting; support continuous process improvement within the finance function. 



Requirements: 

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field required; CPA or Certified Grants Management Specialist (CGMS) preferred. 
  • Minimum of 3–5 years of accounting experience, preferably within a nonprofit organization with direct experience managing government or grant funding. 
  • Strong knowledge of grant compliance requirements, including Uniform Guidance (2 CFR Part 200), cost principles, and reporting standards. 
  • Proficiency in accounting systems and advanced Excel skills; ability to analyze financial data and produce clear, accurate reports. 
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to manage multiple grants, deadlines, and priorities in a fast-paced environment. 
  • Excellent organizational, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to collaborate effectively across departments.

  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and exercise sound judgement in handling sensitive financial information
