What are the responsibilities and job description for the Middle School/Upper School History position at The Montgomery Academy?
Summary of the Position: The Montgomery Academy is seeking a Middle and Upper School History teacher. In the Middle School, this position would teach critical events in early U.S. history including the origins of the United States and the fundamental principles on which the nation was founded. The course takes a topical and thematic approach that covers colonial America up to the Civil War with an introduction to the U.S. Constitution and the American system of government. Upper School courses could include Human Geography, Modern World History, or U.S. History. A typical class load consists of teaching five sections.

- Teach sections of both Middle and Upper School history
- Serve as an advisor
- Effectively integrate educational technology (including iPads) appropriately into the curriculum including managing a LMS
- Work closely and effectively with other history teachers to ensure the meaningful progression from course to course
- Communicate with parents proactively, positively and professionally to support the academic, social-emotional, and physical needs of students
- Integrate the language of leadership and character development into the classroom
- Perform other duties to support the division and/or school as a whole
- Bachelor’s degree in history or other relevant subject; advanced degree preferred
- Independent school teaching experience preferred
- Creative, enthusiastic and innovative
