Role Overview
The Modern Data Company is seeking a Public Sector Sales Representative to support our growing public-sector go-to-market efforts across Federal, State, Local, and Education (SLED) customers.
This role is ideal for a mid-career sales professional who wants hands-on experience with outbound prospecting, first-call discovery, and sales operations while learning how complex public-sector organizations evaluate and purchase modern data platforms.
You will be the front door to The Modern Data Company for public-sector prospects—driving outreach, qualifying leads, and ensuring a clean, well-managed pipeline for senior Account Executives.
Key Responsibilities
Outbound & Inbound Engagement
- Execute outbound prospecting campaigns targeting public-sector organizations, including federal agencies, state and local governments, higher education institutions, and public-sector partners.
- Qualify inbound leads from marketing campaigns, events, webinars, and website inquiries.
- Conduct initial discovery and qualification calls to understand data challenges, mission goals, timelines, and decision processes.
- Schedule qualified meetings and hand off opportunities to Account Executives with clear notes and context.
CRM & Pipeline Management
- Maintain accurate and timely records in CRM (HubSpot or similar), including accounts, contacts, activities, and opportunity details.
- Track lead stages, follow-up tasks, and next steps to ensure consistent engagement and no dropped opportunities.
- Support basic pipeline reporting and contribute to forecast accuracy through strong data hygiene.
Product & Market Learning
- Learn and clearly communicate the core value of DataOS: unifying fragmented data, enabling governed data products, and accelerating analytics and AI readiness for public-sector missions.
- Develop familiarity with public-sector buying patterns, procurement processes, and common data-modernization challenges.
- Stay current on public-sector trends in data, cloud, analytics, and AI through training, shadowing, and self-study.
Sales Team & GTM Support
- Support Account Executives with prospect research, account mapping, and meeting preparation.
- Assist with follow-up from conferences, trade shows, and public-sector events.
- Collaborate with marketing and partnerships teams to improve outbound messaging and lead quality.
Required Qualifications
- 3-5 years of experience in sales, sales development, customer engagement, or business development (technology preferred).
- Strong written and verbal communication skills; comfortable making outbound calls and leading first-level discovery conversations.
- High attention to detail and consistency in CRM usage and follow-through.
- Ability and willingness to learn technical concepts related to data platforms, analytics, and cloud technologies.
- Organized, proactive, and able to manage multiple leads and priorities simultaneously.
- Interest in public-sector missions and technology-driven transformation.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with outbound prospecting tools (LinkedIn Sales Navigator, sequencing tools, etc.).
- Familiarity with public-sector organizations (Federal, SLED, higher education, nonprofits, or regulated industries).
- Ability to obtain a Public Trust clearance (for federal engagements).
