Director of Occupational Therapy

Position Summary
The Occupational Therapy Director provides clinical leadership, administrative oversight, and strategic direction for the Occupational Therapy department. This role oversees daily operations, ensures high-quality and compliant service delivery, supports staff development, and collaborates closely with leadership and front office teams. The OT Director balances clinical responsibilities with management, operational, and program development duties while fostering a supportive, organized, and collaborative work environment.
Key Responsibilities
Clinical Leadership & Quality of Care
- Oversee the delivery of high-quality occupational therapy services in accordance with best practices and ethical standards
- Establish, implement, and monitor clinical policies, procedures, and treatment standards
- Provide clinical supervision, mentorship, and performance feedback to occupational therapists and OT staff
- Support complex cases, evaluations, treatment planning, and discharge decisions as needed
- Ensure compliance with state licensure requirements, payer guidelines, and accreditation standards
- Creates, updates, and maintains department documents and templates.
Administrative & Operational Management
- Manage department operations, including staffing, productivity, and caseload distribution
- Participate in hiring, facility tour for potential OT hires, training, and retention of OT team.
- Conduct performance evaluations and support professional development plans
- Collaborate with leadership on resource allocation and growth planning
Program Development & Collaboration
- Develop and expand occupational therapy programs and services aligned with organizational goals
- Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams, families, physicians, educators, and community partners
- Support staff education, continuing education initiatives, and in-service training
- Participate in leadership meetings and contribute to strategic planning initiatives
Compliance & Reporting
- Ensure adherence to HIPAA, safety standards, and organizational policies
- Track outcomes, productivity metrics, and quality indicators
- Prepare reports and data as requested by leadership
Qualifications
Required:
- Licensed Occupational Therapist in good standing (state-specific)
- Master’s or Doctorate degree in Occupational Therapy
- Minimum of 5 years of clinical OT experience
- Prior leadership, supervisory, or administrative experience
- Strong knowledge of occupational therapy best practices and regulations
- As a director, must be available when your team isn’t available
- Must be available to work occasional weekends and most federal holidays
- Reviews therapy notes and team schedules
Preferred:
- Experience in pediatric, outpatient, or multi-disciplinary settings
- Experience managing teams and clinical operations
- Strong organizational, communication, and leadership skills
