Position Title: Medical Billing Coordinator
Reports To: Finance Manager
FLSA Status: Non Exempt
Position Summary: Supports the medical billing operations at The Midwife Center by ensuring the timely and reliable functioning of all insurance and client billing for the Center’s fee-for-service activities. Determine eligibility and verifying insurance benefits. Supports the mission of The Midwife Center and serves as a key member of the finance team.
Duties & Responsibilities:
- Prepare, review and submit in a timely fashion all of the organization’s electronic and paper claims to insurance companies for all service lines
- Review daily appointment log and medical charts to check for any billable services. Review Provider charges and request any chart or billing corrections to facilitate effective billing processes.
- Reconcile reimbursement rates to contracted insurance rates. Escalate to the Finance Manager any claim underpayments or denials.
- Process both insurance and client payments in billing software. Maintain up-to-date client account ledgers in billing software.
- Verify insurance coverage and client eligibility as needed.
- Review and update demographic and insurance information in client accounts to facilitate accurate submission of billing claims to insurance companies.
- Review and resolve or escalate to the Finance Manager any complex billing issues.
- Provide excellent customer service to TMC clients and be available to answer billing and payment questions by email and phone.
- Escalate to the Finance Manager any payment plans or overdue client accounts in accordance with the Policies and Procedures manual.
- Maintain TMC knowledge of and resources for effective billing practices, including compliance requirements, birth center and industry standards, and medical billing trends.
- Serve as backup for the finance team during staff absences.

Experience & Education Requirements:
- Bachelor’s or Associate’s Degree in a related field or equivalent experience
- At least 3 years of professional experience in a client service environment.
- Previous billing experience with an OB/GYN practice preferred.Certification as a biller or related training preferred.
Working Conditions:
- Ability to perform sedentary, office-based work at a desk for long periods of time.
- Perform light work- exerting up to 5 to 10 pounds of force occasionally and/or up to 5 pounds of force frequently or constantly lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects up to 10 pounds.
- Ability to work during TMC’s office hours Monday-Friday
