We are seeking a professional, approachable, and student-focused Community Safety Specialist to help maintain a safe, welcoming, and supportive learning environment for students, staff, families, and visitors.

Position Overview

The Community Safety Specialist plays a vital role in promoting a safe and positive school climate. This position is responsible for monitoring school facilities, supporting daily school operations, assisting with emergency response, and building positive relationships with students while helping ensure compliance with school safety procedures.

Successful candidates understand that school safety is built on relationships, communication, visibility, and professionalism. The Community Safety Specialist serves as a trusted adult who helps prevent problems before they occur while responding appropriately when situations arise.
This is a part-time position of up to 29 hours per week. Work locations may include one or more Met campuses in Providence or Newport based on school needs.

Provide a visible and welcoming presence throughout assigned school campus(es).
Monitor entrances, hallways, parking areas, and other common spaces to promote a safe learning environment.
Assist with visitor management and ensure established building access procedures are followed.
Respond to student, staff, and visitor concerns in a calm, professional, and respectful manner.
Support administrators with student supervision and behavioral interventions.
Assist during emergency drills and actual emergency situations in accordance with school safety protocols.
Monitor security cameras and report safety concerns to school administration.
Complete incident reports and maintain accurate documentation.
Conduct routine safety inspections and report maintenance or security concerns.
Assist with arrival, dismissal, and special events as assigned.
Build positive relationships with students while reinforcing school expectations.
Work collaboratively with administrators, advisors, counselors, school nurses, transportation staff, and community partners.
Maintain confidentiality and professionalism in all interactions.
Perform other related duties as assigned.

High school diploma or GED.
Valid driver's license.
Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively with adolescents and adults.
Strong interpersonal, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
Ability to remain calm and make sound decisions in stressful situations.
Ability to walk, stand, and patrol school buildings and grounds for extended periods.
Ability to successfully pass all required background checks.

Preferred

Experience in school safety, security, youth development, education, public safety, military, law enforcement, emergency services, or a related field.
CPR, First Aid, and AED certification (or willingness to obtain).
Experience using computer systems, security camera systems, and incident reporting software.
Bilingual or multilingual skills are a plus.
