Biweekly Hours: 40.00
Shift: 40 hrs/pay period with 32 sched M-F btwn the hours of 7:30a 7:30p. 4 hours sched every Sat w/ start btwn7:30a/8:30a. Float to other sites

Summary
Obtains acceptable blood samples from patients by venipuncture or capillary draw while following established departmental guidelines for sample quality. Maintains the safety and the comfort of patients at all times. Adheres to hospital guidelines, safety/regulatory requirements, and quality control standards. Performs patient registration, visit processing, and other clerical duties, as necessary. Performs specimen processing tasks as required, including but not limited to accessioning, centrifugation, bar coding, and packaging for transport. Upholds the mission, vision, values, and customer service standards of The MetroHealth System.
Qualifications
Required :
HS Diploma or passage of a high school equivalency exam .
Meets One Of The Following
Ability to communicate effectively, orally and in writing.
Excellent customer service skills.
Has a reliable mode of transportation and is willing and able to rotate locations within The MetroHealth System.
Ability to interact effectively with a wide range of cultural, ethnic, racial, and socioeconomic backgrounds.
Preferred
2 years of Phlebotomy experience with adult and pediatric patients.
Current Registered PBT/ASCP.
Proficiency with computers.
Knowledge of medical terminology.
Physical Requirements: May sit, stand, stoop, bend, and ambulate intermittently during the day. May need to sit or stand for extended periods. See in the normal visual range with or without correction. Hear in the normal audio range with or without correction. Finger dexterity to operate office equipment required. May need to lift up to twenty-five (25) pounds on occasion. Ability to communicate in face-to-face, phone, email, and other communications. Ability to see computer monitor and departmental documents. Requires some exposure to communicable diseases or body fluids. Requires some exposure to chemicals and cleaning products.

- Registered Phlebotomy Technician (PBT/ASCP) or registry eligible*: Has 6 months of phlebotomy experience in a high volume, fast-paced ambulatory hospital setting (performing Phlebotomy on at least 45 patients per 8-hour shift) or has completed an accredited training program ** along with an internship in a high patient volume setting.
- Unregistered Phlebotomist: Has 2 current years of phlebotomy experience in a high patient volume setting (performing Phlebotomy on at least 45 patients per 8-hour shift) or has completed a formal training program ** along with an internship is a high-volume setting.
- Registry eligible is demonstrated by the presentation of official notification to the MetroHealth System of a passing score on the PBT emanation within 6 months of hire.
- Completion of an accredited or formal phlebotomy program is demonstrated by the presentation of a certificate of completion.
