About AmeriCorps: AmeriCorps members and AmeriCorps Seniors volunteers serve directly with nonprofit organizations to tackle our nation’s most pressing challenges.
Hosted by NeighborScapes NFP, 8 AmeriCorps members will compose a "Harvey Conservation Corps" who will help catalyze revitalizing green spaces in and around the southern Chicago suburb of Harvey, Illinois.
Summary: The AmeriCorps members will take responsibility for supporting community gardens, urban farms, and healthy green streetscapes; creating and maintaining trails in nearby parks and forest preserves; helping residents with both environmental stewardship and health education around nature, connecting Harvey students with nature, and maintaining and improving public lands.
Essential Duties
1. Wildland Fire Training Certification / Illinois Pesticide Certification
2. Clearing Invasive Plant Species in Parks / Forest Preserve
a. Creating /maintaining nature trails in public lands around the South Suburbs
3. Working in urban farms and community gardens
Qualifications:
1. Must be a U.S. Citizen (required for FEMA Corps and Forest Corps), or a Lawful Permanent Resident of the U.S.
2. Must pass a background check upon arrival to the program.
3. For Full-Time Service, an individual must be available for full-time
Part-Time members must be available 2-3 days a week
