What are the responsibilities and job description for the Assistant Director position at The Methodist Home for Children and Youth?
Purpose: The Assistant Director provides oversight for the overall operations of assigned living units including management of staff, cottage structure, building management, and crisis management
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Responsible for all aspects of cottage management including hiring and supervision of all Direct Care Staff and supervision of residents for assigned living unites.
- Manages overall cottage structure including adequate program staffing/schedules, medication management, and transportation and facility management along with all health and safety drills (fire drills, tornado drills, etc.)
- Ensures compliance with federal and state laws, outside regulatory and contractual requirements, all internal agency policy and procedures, and all accreditation standards
- Ensures policies and procedures are followed when crisis intervention occurs to include but not limited to notification of internal and external collaterals, applicable documentation, debriefing of staff and residents, etc.
- Responsible for the management of the budget and effective use of resources for assigned living units.
- Participates in the PQI process with the attention to the culture of safety and quality, prioritizes and implements necessary changes based on these evaluations
- Responsible for the resident’s care and progress relative to the needs, goals, and objectives identified in the assessments and service plans.
- Contributes to the prevention and management of challenging behaviors
- Communicate with team prior to admission to the campus specifics regarding the new resident including risk assessment.
- Facilitates team meetings weekly or more often as needed to communicate resident information such as risk assessments, functional analysis of behavior, goals, needs, etc.
- Acts as a liaison between the Agency and external collaterals including but not limited to Residential Child Care Licensing, Office of Provider Management, etc.
- Participates in the clinical staffing of residents.
- Maintains on call professional duties as assigned.
- Develops and maintains effective, therapeutic relationships with residents
- Utilizes appropriate Sanctuary tools when interacting with colleagues and residents.
- Adheres to the seven commitments of Sanctuary when carrying out work responsibilities. Completes assignments in a timely and accurate manner
- Is willing to take on additional responsibility in a positive manner.
- Complete training necessary to perform position consistent with program and agency staff development plans.
- Uphold the mission, vision and values of The Methodist Home.
- Regional site needs may dictate a difference in some job responsibilities
Education and/or Work Experience Requirements:
- Bachelor’s Degree and a minimum of two years of supervisory experience.
- Two years experience in a residential facility preferred.
- Knowledge of principles and processes for providing customer and personal services, this includes meeting quality standards for services
- Must have the ability to listen and understand the needs of residents, staff and collaterals.
- Knowledge of emotionally disturbed adolescent behavior, developmental issues, group dynamics, societal trends, and peer influences.
- Working knowledge of family systems and family dynamics
- Must have a valid Driver’s License with minimum of four-year driving history and the ability to meet and remain in good standing in accordance with Agency insurance guidelines. Must have proficient computer knowledge.
- Ability to communicate clearly both verbally and in writing.
- Ability to meet and handle the public with tact and poise.
- Must be able to multi task in a fast-paced work environment.
- Ability to appropriately handle confidential information
- Ability to understand and consistently implement policies and procedures of the Agency.
- Ability to interact and work cooperatively and effectively with other personnel and residents.
- Ability to show sensitivity and responsiveness to cultural difference in the service population
Job Type: Full-time
Pay: $52,000.00 - $54,000.00 per year
