Overview
As a Shelter Site Coordinator, you’ll play a vital role in supporting individuals experiencing homelessness. Working closely with our Operations Director and a dedicated team of volunteers, you’ll help create a safe, compassionate, and community-centered environment for up to 40 guests each night.
This role calls for flexibility, empathy, and a trauma-informed approach as you provide care and supervision in our shared shelter space. It’s an opportunity to be on the front lines of an innovative, grassroots organization committed to closing critical gaps in our community’s social service network.
Responsibilities
- Provide shelter services in a warm, respectful, and trauma-informed manner that meets the unique needs of guests experiencing homelessness, trauma, or mental illness.
- Help create an environment that is safe, welcoming, and supportive of growth and recovery.
- Ensure the shelter space is properly set up for meals, coffee, service providers, and sleeping arrangements.
- Check guests in, explain shelter policies, and collect required data.
- Supervise guests during activities and smoke breaks, ensuring safety and appropriate behavior throughout the site, including bathrooms.
- Build positive relationships with guests while offering care, guidance, and direct support.
- Maintain and update outreach sheets regularly, identifying guests who haven’t been connected with and noting any barriers to meeting their needs.
- Work with guests to address challenges that may prevent them from forming connections or accessing services.
- Stay present, visible, and approachable to both staff and guests throughout your shift.
- Assist with daily cleaning tasks such as sweeping, mopping, wiping down surfaces, and setting up or breaking down the site.
This is a seasonal position running from November through April, with non-traditional hours that include evenings, weekends, and holidays.
The shelter operates 7 days a week, and staff must be willing to work any assigned shift.
Available Shifts:
- 5:15 PM – 10:00 PM
- 5:15 PM – 1:30 AM
- 1:30 AM – 9:00 AM
Job Types: Part-time, Temporary
Pay: $16.00 per hour
