What are the responsibilities and job description for the Lifeguard position at The Merion Cricket Club?
The Lifeguard’s primary duty is to ensure the safety of every member and guest who enter the Aquatics Complex. The Lifeguard is in charge of enforcing all pool rules and regulations. Must be a proactive individual who possesses proper judgement skills in order to maintain order in the pool area as well as appropriately respond to any accident or emergency. This individual must be respectful, and willing to work in a team-environment to accomplish tasks. In addition to Lifeguard duties, this person must adopt a service-first mentality by anticipation of member needs and a focus on exceeding all expectations. At each and every moment, this individual must be eager and willing to cultivate the best possible experience for all who step foot on MCC property.
HOURS
The pool opens for recreational “family” swim beginning in late April. Lifeguards will be needed on weekends only until the MCC Pool is open for the season beginning mid-May. Our Pool season ends in October.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
- Ensure safety of membership by constant surveillance of pool and pool areas
- Judgement and confidence to enforce rules, safety, and respond to an emergency
- Respond to emergency situations in accordance to American Red Cross emergency response techniques and Merion Cricket Club protocols
- Administer first aid and file incident reports
- Provide immediate care to sustain life until Emergency Medical Services arrives
- Ensure pool staffing is within MCC standards before leaving the area or performing maintenance items
- Greet members upon arrival to the pool, assist with check-in
- Assist with towel and water service, and additional help as requested
- Responsible for cleanliness and maintenance of the pool and pool areas, this includes but is not limited to; logging chemicals, cleaning filters, scrubbing tiles, skimming water, sweeping the deck, and additional duties if necessary
- Maintain pool logs, incident/accident reports, locker room checks and other documents as required
- Observe service culture mission statement to provide outstanding service to members and guests
- Respect to all membership and staff, strong ability to collaborate and work in a team environment
- Attend staff meetings and trainings as required
- Maintain current certifications
- Maintain physical fitness
- Perform other related duties as required
REQUIREMENTS
- 2 years of lifeguarding experience
- Completion of Lifeguard training and/or current certification
- First Aid and CPR certifications
- AED certification
- Ability to work extended shifts with sun exposure and/or high temperature
- Physically fit, strong, demonstrated swimming ability
- Ability to use water test kit
- Proficient communication skills
- Exhibit strong judgement skills
- Team-oriented personality
- Passion for member service, eager to build and maintain culture of member service excellence
ENVIRONMENTAL CONDITIONS
Wet and/or humid environment, high levels of noise and activity, exposure to sun and other weather conditions, exposure to toxic or caustic chemicals
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
- Ability to communicate clearly and relay important information accurately, clearly, and loudly
- Ability to clearly see at 20 inches or less and 20 feet or more
- Advanced ability to swim, surface dive, swim underwater, and tread water
- Ability to recover an casualty from deep water to surface, out of water, and to a point of safety
- Ability to lift and carry heavy objects either above or underwater
- Ability to pull and drag large objects
- Ability to sit or stand for extended periods at a time
