Job Overview
We are seeking a detail-oriented and compassionate Medical Receptionist to join our healthcare team. The ideal candidate will play a crucial role in ensuring the smooth operation of our medical office by providing exceptional patient service and administrative support. This position requires strong communication skills, proficiency in medical terminology, and familiarity with various electronic health record (EHR) systems. The Medical Receptionist will be responsible for managing patient interactions, scheduling appointments, and maintaining accurate medical records.
Responsibilities
- Greet patients warmly and assist them with the check-in process.
- Schedule and confirm patient appointments using EHR systems such as Epic, Meditech, or Athenahealth.
- Manage multi-line phone systems to handle incoming calls, inquiries, and appointment requests with excellent phone etiquette.
- Verify patient insurance information and perform insurance verification to ensure coverage for services rendered.
- Collect co-pays and process payments while adhering to HIPAA regulations regarding patient confidentiality.
- Maintain accurate medical records, including documentation review and filing of patient information in compliance with ICD-9 and ICD-10 coding standards.
- Assist in the preparation of care plans and coordinate with healthcare providers as necessary.
- Provide clerical support including typing, data entry, and maintaining organized office files.
- Respond to patient inquiries regarding medical billing, CPT coding, and general office procedures.
- Support the office management team with administrative tasks as needed.
Qualifications
- Previous experience as a Medical Receptionist or in a similar role within a medical or dental office is required.
- Familiarity with EMR systems
- Knowledge of medical terminology, ICD coding, CPT coding, and health information management is essential.
- Strong computer skills including proficiency in Microsoft Office applications.
- Excellent customer service skills with a focus on patient satisfaction.
- Ability to communicate effectively in both English and Spanish is a plus (bilingual candidates encouraged to apply).
- Strong organizational skills with attention to detail in managing multiple tasks simultaneously.
- Experience handling medical collections and billing processes is beneficial.
