Summary

Supervise and independently perform studies to advance the goals of the user projects assigned to Oxford Instruments Center for Advanced Microscopy-EM Core. Perform experiments, analyze data and compile results and monitor quality control processes to ensure integrity of research.


Primary Responsibilities

  • Design and execute complex research procedures for sample preparation for electron microscopy, imaging, and data analysis

  • Develop and perform routine and complex protocols for research projects based on end user needs.

  • Coordinate research study activities; lead and manage projects.

  • Assist in developing, implementing and monitoring quality activities.

  • Collaborate with principal investigators in determining study design and performing image analyses.

  • Develop new methodologies for lab procedures.

  • Maintain supplies, may negotiate with vendors, track purchase orders.

  • Participate in meetings with principal investigator and research staff and evaluate/interpret the validity of data, develop methodologies, evaluate lab procedures.

  • May oversee the work of laboratory personnel including training and development as well as daily work direction/delegation/prioritizing.

  • Knowledge/experience in Scanning EM workflow would be beneficial.

  • Knowledge of biology, chemistry, mathematics, documentation,

    and records management.

  • Data utilization, complex problem solving, critical thinking, resource management, and writing skills.


Qualifications

Appropriate experience may be substituted for education on an equivalent basis.


Minimum Required Education:
PhD in a scientific field

Minimum Required Experience:

Physical Requirements

Work requires occasionally lifting moderate weight materials, standing, or walking continuously.


Work Environment

Occasional exposure to dust, noise, temperature changes, or contact with water or other liquids. Work is performed in an environmentally controlled environment.


Sensory Acuity

Ability to detect and translate speech or other communication required. May occasionally require the ability to distinguish colors and perceive relative distances between objects.
