Summary

The Associate Director of Philanthropy Communications is a key member of the Office of Communications and Brand Strategy (OOC) and the Office of Institutional Advancement and Alumni Relations (OIA) who collaborates with senior leaders and colleagues at the Medical College of Wisconsin (MCW) and Froedtert Hospital (FH) to lead the communications planning and execution of integrated communications strategies supporting philanthropy programs and channels and manage related communications and content needs.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Provides leadership for the development, review, distribution, and alignment of high-impact donor-facing communications.

  • Works in collaboration with and under the direction of the Director Marketing and Engagement Philanthropy, to develop and implement an integrated, multi-year communications plan supporting the comprehensive campaign marketing communications strategy.

  • Lead execution of integrated communication plans, editorial calendars, and content for alumni and donor newsletters.

  • Partners with OIA team members to develop and organize original content and coordinate content needs directed at philanthropic benefactors on solicitations, gift reporting and special projects.

  • Collaborates to ensure consistent philanthropic messaging, branding and themes throughout channels that highlight philanthropic and donor storytelling.

  • Develop and implement integrated communications plans for transformational gift announcements within philanthropy channels.

  • Manages the Philanthropy content strategy free-lance writers and resources to effectively curate, develop, and repurpose content for use across philanthropic channels and ensure reporting deadlines are met.

  • Develop a comprehensive Healthcare Philanthropy/Grateful Patient communications strategy, plan, toolkit, and content strategy and lead the content strategy and plan for the giving websites.

  • Write and support executive remarks and donor-facing thought leadership content in support of philanthropy priorities.

Knowledge – Skills – Abilities

  • Strong storyteller, writer, and editor; curator of emotive, inspirational, and compelling content telling the story of alumni and donor impact.

  • Strong experience developing and executing integrated communications strategies and work plans within a defined functional area.

  • Experienced in utilizing data-informed strategies, decision making and KPI metrics

  • Collaborative, strategic, creative and solutions minded.

  • Deadline driven.

  • Knowledge of philanthropic giving techniques, best practices and software.

  • Ability to communicate technical information to a non-technical audience both orally and in writing.

  • Attention to detail and ability to maintain confidence.

  • Demonstrated success developing integrated communications strategy and work plans.

  • Create compelling and effective communications donor communications, stewardship, and philanthropy engagement content.

  • Demonstrated working knowledge of fundraising communications principles, donor engagement, and stewardship best practices.

  • Demonstrated skills in donor reporting and proposal management, annual giving programs, digital platforms and outreach, recognition, and donor relations.

  • Demonstrated ability to navigate a complex organization and collaborate effectively with senior leaders, faculty, and advancement partners.

  • Exceptional organizational, analytical, and communications skills.

Qualifications

Appropriate experience may be substituted on equivalent basis.

Minimum Required Education: Bachelor’s Degree

Minimum Required Experience: 8-10 years

Preferred Education: Master’s Degree

Preferred Experience: 10 years or more in marketing communication campaigns and corporate communications, fundraising programs, ideally in an academic medical setting, health system or other complex institution.

Physical Requirements

Work requires occasionally lifting moderate weight materials, standing, or walking continuously.

Work Environment

Occasional exposure to dust, noise, temperature changes, or contact with water or other liquids. Work is performed in an environmentally controlled environment.

Sensory Acuity

Ability to detect and translate speech or other communication required. May occasionally require the ability to distinguish colors and perceive relative distances between objects.
