The Media Lab is an innovative film and media day program for adults with high-functioning developmental disabilities. Our goal is to teach vocational and life skills, through the art of film and media production. Our team strives to create a safe and supportive environment for our students to learn, grow, and express themselves through film. The Studio Manager of Academics oversees a team of Media Specialists in their efforts to teach students the technical elements and soft-skills needed to be successful in a career in media production.
The Studio Manager of Academics reports to the Studio Director. The Studio Manager provides supervision to the Media Specialists and manages the day-to-day operations. The Studio Manager is also responsible for the implementation of the program curriculum. The Studio Manager will also:
- supervise and work directly with media specialists and consumers;
- maintain and implement curriculum for multiple classes focused on media production skills;
- have technical knowledge in running a broadcast studio, including set-up, maintenance, and troubleshooting of broadcast equipment;
- have technical knowledge in production equipment, including the set-up, maintenance, and troubleshooting of cameras, lights, and audio equipment;
- demonstrate working knowledge of the Adobe Suite, including Premiere Pro, After Effects and Illustrator;
- provide guidance and support to staff in handling behaviors consistent with high-functioning Autism and other developmental disabilities;
- provide 1:1 intervention for consumers experiencing behaviors consistent with high-functioning Autism and other developmental disabilities,
- delegate tasks and ensure the team is supported in meeting deadlines and quality standards;
- resolve conflicts and address issues to keep daily operations running smooth;
- act as a liaison between your team and upper management and other departments;
- develop and maintain quality services and engaging activities that meet consumer needs;
- maintain, repair, inventory, and create purchase requests for equipment and supplies needed for classes;
- review daily notes and goals and address issues to maintain regulatory compliance;
- fulfill the needs to the studio in the event that a Media Specialist is unavailable;
- develop and maintain lesson plans;
- participate in and assist with emergency drills;
- maintain confidential consumer files;
- manage and assess your team’s annual performance reviews;
- ensure consumers' rights and dignity are maintained in the provision of services.
Qualifications:
Bachelor’s Degree and at least 5 years of work experience in video production, film production, or digital media -or- 8-10 years of work experience in video production, film production, or digital media.
Must have supervisory experience of at least 2 years and must pass background investigation that includes FBI/DOJ fingerprint check.
Experience working with people with developmental disabilities is preferred.
