The McConnell Group (TMG), www.themccgroup.com, is a health science company providing professional, scientific, technical, and research support services to government and commercial clients. TMG is seeking a Zebrafish Attending Veterinarian to provide veterinary support for a zebrafish vivarium core facility at the Central Texas Veterans Health Care System Research Department in Temple, Texas.
This role provides professional veterinary oversight for zebrafish used in VA research programs, including animal health, humane care, husbandry oversight, regulatory compliance, IACUC support, accreditation readiness, and investigator training.
Key Responsibilities
· Serve as the Attending Veterinarian for the CTVHCS zebrafish vivarium and participate as a member of the IACUC.
· Review animal-use protocols and provide veterinary guidance to investigators, IACUC leadership, and institutional officials.
· Conduct semi-annual program and facility reviews/inspections and meet with the Institutional Official to review findings.
· Support development and implementation of IACUC and husbandry SOPs, policies, and procedures.
· Assist with required reporting and documentation for USDA, OLAW, AAALAC International, VA Central Office, and other oversight bodies, as applicable.
· Provide oversight for zebrafish husbandry, colony health, water quality, quarantine/sentinel programs, anesthesia, euthanasia, and clinical response standards.
· Conduct meetings and/or training sessions with VA investigators as needed.
· Remain available by phone or email for administrative, animal health, compliance, or programmatic issues requiring veterinary input.
Schedule
Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Central Time, excluding federal holidays.
Qualifications
· Doctor of Veterinary Medicine degree from an AVMA-accredited veterinary program.
· Licensed to practice veterinary medicine in at least one U.S. state.
· Experience in zebrafish-related laboratory animal science and medicine required.
· Experience as an Attending Veterinarian, IACUC member, or veterinary advisor in a research animal program preferred.
· Knowledge of VA animal research requirements, OLAW expectations, AAALAC accreditation standards, and IACUC program requirements preferred.
· Strong communication, documentation, compliance, and program-review skills.
