Overview

Great things are happening at T. Marzetti Top Quality Baking (TQB)! As we continue to grow, we are seeking team members who want to grow with us on our journey toward world-class operational excellence.

As a Sanitation Supervisor, you will oversee the sanitation function across all bakery operations, ensuring our facilities are maintained in a hygienically clean, sanitary, and safe condition. You will uphold the highest standards of quality, food safety, and regulatory compliance. You will also lead, coach, and develop a team of sanitation associates—providing training, support, and direction to ensure consistent and effective performance.

Work Schedule

This position follows one of two structured weekly schedules based on business needs:

Option 1 – Sunday Sanitation (Sunday–Wednesday)

  • Sunday: 12-hour shift (5:00 AM–5:30 PM or 3:00 AM–3:30 PM)
  • Monday–Wednesday: 10-hour shifts (5:00 AM–3:30 PM or 3:00 AM–1:30 PM)
  • Thursday–Friday: Off

Option 2 – Sunday Running (Monday–Thursday)

  • Monday–Thursday: 10.5-hour shifts (5:00 AM–3:30 PM)
  • Saturday, Sunday, Friday: Off

Responsibilities

Essential Functions/Primary Responsibilities:

  • Works respectfully with all team members to ensure the Safety, Quality, production and support of our products and goals daily.
  • Practices integrity, respect, accountability, continuous improvement and positive interactions with all Team Members and visitors.
  • Actively participates in Marzetti Operational Excellence, special projects or tasks, and modification programs as needed with prior approval.
  • Actively participates in department/shift/team meetings and is involved with improvement/resolutions & follow-up.
  • Coordinates with Department Managers/Supervisors to ensure a trouble-free shift start-up/shutdown.

  • Maintains highest standard of Safety for all functions on an ongoing basis and ensures compliance for self and others to OSHA standards, company policies and procedures.
  • Performs daily inspection of all PPE required including but not limited to SLIP-RESISTANT/STEEL-TOED SHOES, hairnet, and beard net (in necessary) to ensure good overall condition of items that provide optimal personal safety & protection while working in the facility.
  • Successfully acquires and maintains Lock Out-Tag Out Certification for machine and safely performs all functions in accordance with OSHA and company requirements and standards. As they apply for this position.
  • Performs daily inspection of power equipment with proper documentation. In accordance with OSHA standards, company policies and procedures. As they apply for this position.
  • As a member of the T. Marzetti Company, completes his/her Behavior Based Safety Observations (BBSO), corrects issues when identified, and participates in problem solving.

  • As a member of the T. Marzetti Company, completes his/her Behavior Based Quality observations (BBQs), corrects issues when identified and participates in problem solving.
  • Ensures compliance with quality, food safety / HACCP, FSMA, Food Defense, 5S, OSHA and other support programs; assures conformity to all company, customer and government standards.
  • Communicate any concerns related to product safety, integrity, quality and legality to management or to the confidential hotline if the need for anonymity is necessary.
  • Maintains a close relationship with QA and respond to deviations from standards immediately.

  • Support General Plant Safety, Food Safety, Food Defence Initiatives and Good Manufacturing Practices with an understanding that these are absolutes and are Priority #1.
  • Practices integrity, respect, accountability, continuous improvement and positive interactions with all Team Members and visitor
  • Must understand and comply with all BRC required Policies, Procedures, and Documentation.
  • Provides leadership and guidance in directing efforts to improve, maintain and validate safety and sanitation practices and procedures.
  • Assists with the prevention of chemical, physical, and biological hazards at the facility.
  • Provides technical guidance to management and employees regarding the correct use of protective clothing or accessories.
  • Follow all company Color Code procedures.
  • Coordinates shift activities through planning and communication with employees to ensure all sanitation objectives are accomplished.
  • Responsible for following all Lock Out / Tag Out procedures for machines as well as insuring all employees are following procedure.
  • Help increase employee morale by coaching in a positive manner.
  • Must pass company forklift training class, Scissors lift, and Boom lift training and maintain certification.
  • Must be able to successfully understand and operate the CIP system.
  • Facilitate training for employees on issues related to sanitation.
  • Performs routine plant audits and sanitation inspection of equipment and recommends maintenance/repair needs for correction to comply with sanitation practices in accordance with State and federal sanitation laws, and plant standards.
  • Continuously verifies/validates sanitation effectiveness and proposes better ways to clean/sanitize, maximizing results and minimizing cost.
  • Anticipates sanitation needs based on Production schedules and coordinates personnel needs and tasks based on available cleaning time.
  • Updates sanitation procedures and practices (SSOP) per company policies and recommends adjustments to schedules, procedures, and sanitation practices to QA Manager for review.
  • Provides monthly training to sanitation employees on specific sanitation job tasks, tools, and proper chemical usage.
  • Compiles required reports regarding inspections, sanitation violations, and corrective actions.
  • Responsible for overseeing the maintenance and hygiene of all sanitation equipment.
  • Responsible for performing weekly inventory on sanitation supplies and for securing and assigning supplies as required.
  • Assists in the preparation of the facility in advance of company visits and audits.
  • Responsible for follow-up pest control observation and making an internal pest control walkthrough and keeping records.
  • Works to maintain and improve the quality, legality, and safety of each product and the processes used in their manufacture.
  • Responsible for always keeping assigned work area clean and tidy and report any potential contamination and suspicious activity to a member of Management immediately.
  • Supervisory Responsibilities: Supervises up to 12 sanitation employees. Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities include interviewing, and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems.
  • Regular Attendance is required in accordance with Company attendance policy and procedures.
  • Performs other duties/responsibilities as assigned.
  • Complete initial/annual training to ensure the individual is properly qualified (QI) to perform all required job tasks as outlined in training programs/records.

Qualifications

  • A high school diploma or GED is required; an associate degree is preferred.
  • Requires 2–4 years of supervisory experience in sanitation within a food manufacturing setting.
  • Ability to read, analyze and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, operating and maintenance instructions, and governmental regulations. Ability to effectively present information to and respond to questions from employees, managers, and clients.
  • Knowledge in BRC preferred.
  • Bilingual (English/Spanish) is preferred.
  • Knowledge of Word, Excel, and Outlook is required.
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively – verbally & written – and work well with Team Members and Management
  • Basic mechanical aptitude and good math skills are helpful.
  • Ability to read & interpret written & verbal direction while working in a safe, effective & productive manner within a fast-paced environment.
  • Willing to work all shifts as needed.
  • Prior forklift, lift and CIP experience preferred.

Working Conditions/Environment

  • Works in a manufacturing environment where the Team Member is regularly required to speak, read, and comprehend, stand, walk, reach, lift, grasp, climb, and bend while working in a fast-paced production environment.
  • Lift up to 50 pounds repetitively.
  • Stand for up to 12 hours with regular breaks.
  • May be required to work overtime and/or weekends as needed.
  • The employee is regularly exposed to heat, fumes, odors, dust, oil, slippery floors, moving parts/equipment and non-toxic industrial waste and scrap.
  • SLIP-RESISTANT/Steel-toed SHOES, earplugs, safety glasses, hairnets, beard nets (if facial hair exists) and smocks are required to be worn/used in accordance with company GMP and Safety standards. Condition of these items must be inspected by employee daily and be replaced when no longer providing the optimal protection of the Team Member.
