What are the responsibilities and job description for the Part-Time Park Naturalist position at The Maryland-National Capital Park & Planning Commission?
This position pays at a rate of $17.50 per hour, up to 40 hours a week from May-August. Accrued paid sick leave is available, but no other benefits are included. With the possibility to extend beyond August.
- Assist with summer camps
- Assist with guided tours to various groups such as schools, scouts, and the general public.
- Assist with feeding and cleaning of living collection
- Assist with special events
- Assist with facility maintenance and cleaning
- Assist with inspecting trails for debris and fallen branches
- Greet visitors, provide program information, promote positive public relations and encourage public appreciation for the natural environment
- Perform other duties as assigned
Preferred Candidates will possess:
- At least two years of college-level education in a field such as environmental education, earth science or natural history – or equivalent work/volunteer experience
- Experience working with children, preferred
- Proven ability to excel in verbal communication, take direction, be a team player, flexibility to multitask and maintain stability under pressure
- Demonstrated commitment to customer service, inclusion, diversity, equity, and access
- Willingness to work outside in all weather conditions
- Be able to work weekends and holidays.
- Superior communication skills; outgoing and friendly
- Excellent organizational skills
- Be able to pass CPR/First Aid certification
- Be able to pass a Maryland Background check
- Valid driver's license

Ability to work onsite/in person with staff, volunteers, and the public Ability to work outdoors for extended periods of time, in cool and hot/humid conditions A criminal background investigation will be completed prior to hire.
