Loss Prevention Manager β Multi-Unit Grocery Operation Position Summary The Loss Prevention Manager is responsible for protecting company assets, improving gross margin performance, and reducing shrink across all store locations. This role partners closely with Operations, Store Leadership, Finance, and HR to ensure strong controls around receiving, inventory handling, employee conduct, and customer theft prevention. The focus is on prevention, accountability, and process discipline. Shrink Reduction & Gross Margin Performance
Own shrink performance across all locations with clear targets by department. Analyze shrink trends, margin erosion, and inventory discrepancies to identify root causes.
Partner with Operations and Finance to connect shrink reduction to gross margin improvement. Develop and monitor shrink scorecards and dashboards by store and department. Backdoor Receiving & Inventory Controls
Establish and enforce standardized backdoor receiving procedures. Audit DSD receiving, invoices, credits, damages, and returns.
Ensure separation of duties and proper documentation for all receiving activities. Train store teams on best-practice receiving controls. Employee Theft Prevention & Internal Controls
Develop and maintain policies to deter and detect internal theft. Conduct internal investigations in partnership with HR and Legal.
Identify high-risk behaviors, departments, or processes and implement controls. Ensure consistent disciplinary standards and documentation. Customer Theft & Front-End Controls
Support store teams in reducing external theft through front-end controls and monitoring. Train leadership on theft awareness and legal compliance.
Balance loss prevention initiatives with customer experience standards.
Exception-Based Reporting & Data Analytics Design and maintain exception-based reporting to identify high-risk transactions and behaviors.
Monitor key exceptions including voids, refunds, no-sales, price overrides, cancelled transactions, DSD receiving variances, negative inventory adjustments, and margin anomalies. Utilize POS, inventory, and financial systems to proactively flag outliers requiring investigation.
Partner with Operations and Finance to review exception trends and implement corrective actions. Ensure exception reporting is used as a preventive tool, not solely for disciplinary action. Audits, Training & Compliance
Conduct routine and surprise audits related to shrink, cash handling, receiving, and inventory accuracy. Train Store Managers and Department Managers on loss prevention best practices.
Ensure compliance with company policies, legal requirements, and ethical standards. Reporting & Collaboration Provide regular reporting to executive leadership on shrink, margin impact, and risk exposure.
Partner with Operations on targeted improvement plans for underperforming stores. Support new store openings, remodels, and acquisitions with LP assessments. Success Measures
Reduction in overall shrink as a percent of sales. Improved gross margin performance tied to shrink controls.
Compliance with receiving and inventory procedures. Effective prevention and resolution of theft incidents.
Experience & Qualifications
5 years of experience in loss prevention, asset protection, or retail operations within a grocery or multi-unit retail environment. Demonstrated experience managing shrink, gross margin performance, and inventory controls at the store or multi-store level.
Strong working knowledge of grocery receiving processes, DSD operations, backdoor controls, and inventory flow. Experience utilizing POS, inventory, and exception-based reporting systems to identify risk and drive corrective action.
Proven ability to conduct internal investigations with professionalism, discretion, and consistency. Experience partnering cross-functionally with Operations, Finance, HR, and executive leadership.
- Strong analytical skills with the ability to translate data into operational improvements. Excellent communication skills with the ability to influence and train leaders at all levels of the organization.
