Boat Captain – The Manta & Snorkel Co | Kona, HI
Overview: Join our passionate team at The Manta & Snorkel Co – Kona, a family-run operation offering unforgettable ocean tours from Keauhou Bay. We specialize in manta ray night snorkel adventures aboard our 2 vessels. We're looking for an experienced, safety-first Captain who takes pride in delivering exceptional guest experiences on the water.
Key Responsibilities:
- Safely operate a 39' passenger vessel and 27' passenger vessel on manta ray night snorkel out of Keauhou Bay
- Conduct pre-departure safety briefings, vessel inspections, and maintain all USCG compliance requirements
- Navigate Kona's coastal waters confidently, including night operations
- Lead crew and coordinate with in-water tour guides to deliver a seamless guest experience
- Maintain vessel logs, fuel records, and equipment in accordance with USCG and company standards
- Handle lines, anchoring, and moor at Keauhou Bay pier with precision
- Serve as the calm authority onboard—managing guest safety, weather decisions, and any emergencies
Requirements:
- USCG 50-or 100-Ton Master's License (Near Coastal or Inland) — required
- Current TWIC card and valid MMC
- CPR/First Aid certified
- Minimum 2 years experience operating passenger vessels in open ocean conditions
- Experience with diesel inboard engines & / or outboards; jet drive familiarity a plus
- Comfortable with night operations and coastal navigation
- Professional, guest-facing demeanor with strong situational awareness
- Must be available evenings and weekends
Nice to Have:
- Hawaii local knowledge and familiarity with Kona's coastal waters
- Experience in eco-tourism, snorkel, or dive operations
- Towing/salvage or marine mechanical experience
