This role will be located at one of Discovery Land Company’s locations: The Madison Club, set outside of La Quinta, CA.

The Madison Club is seeking a Hairstylist / Barber to join the Wellness Department.

The Hairstylist / Barber will have an eye for design and listening to members requests, consulting on hair styling options, describing the benefits of different hair care products, encouraging members to buy retail products, and staying updated on the latest hair trends and styling methods. Additionally, the Hairstylist / Barber will possess exceptional interpersonal and conversational skills to form relationships and retain long-term customers. In this role, you will be part of creating the Discovery Land Company experience for our members and fellow employees.

Key Responsibilities

• Hairstylist
• Welcoming clients and consulting with them on their desired hairstyles.
• Listening to clients' needs to determine their preferences.
• Describing different hair care products and their benefits.
• Shampooing, cutting, coloring, and highlighting hair.
• Offering manicure, pedicure, waxing, and facial services.
• Performing scalp treatments.
• Acting as salespersons to sell clients hair care retail products.
• Managing bookings and welcoming clients into the store.
• Entering transactions into POS system and maintaining accurate records.
• Building a personal relationship with clients to ensure return visits.
• Adhering to OSHA and salon protocols and procedures for safety and cleanliness standards.
• Ensuring that combs, scissors, razors, and other instruments are cleaned and sanitized after each use.
• Keeping updated on hairstyle trends and styling methods.
• Barber
• Welcoming clients and consulting with them on their desired hairstyles.
• Cutting and trimming hair according to clients' instructions.
• Styling hair using chemical solutions and styling tools.
• Shaving, trimming, and shaping clients’ beards and mustaches.
• Washing and conditioning clients’ hair.
• Providing requested hair treatments and coloring.
• Ensuring that combs, scissors, razors, and other instruments are cleaned and sanitized after each use.
• Supervising apprentices and trainees.
• Providing face, scalp and neck massages.
• Providing hairstyle suggestions to clients.
• Entering transactions into POS system and maintaining accurate records.
• Adhering to OSHA and salon protocols and procedures for safety and cleanliness standards.
  
  

Qualifications

• High school graduation or GED completion.
• Licensing from a cosmetology school and/or State barber’s license.
• Previous experience as a hair stylist or colorist.
• A wide pallet of styling and coloring techniques.
• Proficiency with hot irons, curlers, and blow-dryers.
• Experience with Residential, HOA and/or large expansive resort communities
• Creative mindset and a good eye for design.
• Ability to make effective decisions in difficult situations while keeping a positive outlook and demeanor. Ability to handle member/guest complaints and concerns.
• Ability to seek out new and innovative ways to meet and assure positive member experiences.

• Positive attitude, professional demeanor, and exceptional communication and interpersonal skills to deliver service to members, guests, and team members.
• Must be able to work flexible work hours/schedule including evenings, weekends, and holidays. Long hours may be required due to business demands.
• Ability to work in a team environment.
• Ability to stay calm and focused during the busiest of times.
• Ability to read, write, speak, and understand English; additional languages preferred.
• Ability to meet the physical demands of the position including, but not limited to, working indoors and outdoors in all weather conditions, standing, walking, and moving for periods of greater than eight (8) hours, and lifting and carrying items sometimes greater than fifty (50) pounds.

• The compensation for the position is: $16.50 per hour, plus commission
