What are the responsibilities and job description for the Controls Engineer position at The M. K. Morse Company?
Position summary: The Controls Engineer is responsible for designing, developing, installing, managing and/or maintaining equipment which is used to monitor and control engineering systems, machinery, and processes used by The M. K. Morse Company.
Purpose: To assist The M. K. Morse Company in maintaining a world-class facility through controls troubleshooting, repair, and replacement.
Essential functions - The essential functions of the position include, but are not limited to, the following:
- Troubleshoot and fix complex machine breakdowns related to electrical controls.
- Maintain list of equipment at risk for obsolete controls.
- Research and recommend solutions for obsolete controls.
- Work with Controls Engineers and Maintenance with all matters related to controls systems.
- Participate in daily maintenance shift communication meetings.
- Support continuous improvement initiatives throughout the organization.
- Perform highly technical maintenance tasks as needed.
- Retro fit and install electrical controls systems for industrial machines while maintaining machine guarding and safety.
- Other duties as assigned.
Skills, competencies and experience requirements:
- 5 years hands on experience working in the manufacturing industry.
- Familiarity with Lean Manufacturing.
- Excellent communication skills (including technical writing skills).
- Able to review design plans and drawings for conformance to regulations and requirements.
- Proficient computer skills.
- Strong knowledge of troubleshooting and programming PLC’s (Siemens, VIPA, Allen Bradley, Beckhoff is a plus), CNC, and HMI’s.
- Knowledge of NFPA 79 (Electrical Standard for Industrial Machinery) and 70E (Standards for Electrical Safety in the Workplace).
Added plus:
- CAD experience (both 2D and 3D)
Education Requirements: Bachelor’s or Associates in Electrical Engineering with 5 years of experience
