What are the responsibilities and job description for the IMPACT Youth Project Management Intern position at The Lumen Foundation for Enrichment and Advancement?
Lumen Labs presents the IMPACT Project Management Internship – a 6-week hybrid experience where team members design and manage real community-impact projects that can grow into official Lumen Foundation programs. As an IMPACT Project Management Intern, you’ll learn how to take an idea from concept to launch using a practical, youth-friendly project management framework.
This opportunity is ideal for those interested in program development, nonprofit work, entrepreneurship, or leadership who want hands-on experience, not just theory.
What You’ll Do
As an IMPACT Intern, you will:
- Collaborate with a small team to design a community-impact project that may be elevated into an ongoing program.
- Use the I.M.P.A.C.T. framework to plan and manage your project from start to finish.
- Create real project documents, including: Project scope, goals, and success criteria, task lists, timelines, and milestones
- Basic budgets and resource plans
- SOPs (standard operating procedures) and workflows
- Risk and issue logs, reflection and lessons learned
- Participate in weekly sessions (virtual and/or in-person) for training, work time, and coaching.
- Present your final project at a culminating showcase/pitch event.
Capstone Opportunity
At the end of the cohort, up to two projects will be selected for launch as official Lumen Foundation programs. Creators of selected projects will be recognized as founding members and will have the opportunity to serve in a program manager role during implementation.
What You’ll Gain
By the end of the internship, you will gain:
- Hands-on project management experience with a complete project lifecycle.
- A portfolio-ready project with documentation you can show to employers, schools, or partners.
- Experience in program development and implementation within a nonprofit setting.
- A certificate of completion from The Lumen Foundation.
- Access to mentors and guest speakers from community and business partners.
Ideal Candidate
You might be a great fit if you:
- Live in the Greater Houston area or can reliably participate in a hybrid schedule.
- Are interested in youth development, community impact, entrepreneurship, or nonprofit work.
- Can commit to attending scheduled weekly sessions and completing project work between meetings.
- Are willing to collaborate, communicate, and follow through on tasks.
- No prior project management experience is required—just curiosity, commitment, and a willingness to learn.
Estimated Time Commitment:
- 10-12 hours per week (mix of group sessions, independent work, and team meetings)
- Final schedule will be confirmed with selected Cohort Members.
APPLICATION CLOSES MAY 1ST, 2026.
