The Loris Law Group is seeking an experienced, highly organized, and detail-oriented paralegal/legal assistant to join our family law practice in Melbourne, Florida.

This position plays an important role in the day-to-day management of our cases. We are looking for someone who is exceptionally organized, proactive about deadlines and follow-up, communicates well with clients, and takes ownership of making sure matters do not fall through the cracks.

We are a small, established law firm with a professional and collaborative office environment. The right person will be dependable, personable, comfortable working independently, and equally comfortable working closely with attorneys and other staff.

Prior law office experience is required. Florida family law experience is strongly preferred.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Calendar and monitor court deadlines, discovery deadlines, hearings, mediations, appointments, and other important case dates
  • Regularly monitor the status of assigned cases to identify upcoming deadlines, outstanding items, and matters requiring follow-up
  • Schedule hearings, mediations, depositions, client appointments, and other case-related proceedings
  • Follow up with clients, opposing counsel, and others regarding outstanding discovery, documents, information, and responses
  • Communicate regularly and professionally with clients throughout their cases and keep them informed regarding case-related matters
  • Assist clients with gathering and responding to discovery and required financial disclosures
  • Review, organize, and maintain discovery and other case documents
  • Prepare preliminary drafts of pleadings, motions, notices, proposed orders, final judgments, correspondence, and other legal documents using the firm's templates and procedures
  • Assist attorneys with preparation for hearings, mediations, and other case-related proceedings
  • Maintain organized and accurate electronic case files
  • Work closely with attorneys to ensure cases continue moving forward and required tasks are completed timely

Qualifications

  • Prior law office experience required
  • Florida family law experience strongly preferred
  • Associate's degree or higher preferred
  • Exceptional organizational and time-management skills
  • Strong attention to detail and accuracy
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including strong grammar, spelling, and proofreading skills
  • Ability to manage multiple cases, competing priorities, and deadlines without losing track of outstanding tasks
  • Ability to work independently, anticipate what needs to be done next, and consistently follow through
  • Professional and comfortable communicating with clients, attorneys, court personnel, and other professionals
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office and Adobe Acrobat
  • Strong computer skills and ability to learn and work efficiently with legal technology
  • Good professional judgment, including knowing when a matter requires attorney attention or direction
  • Dependable, collaborative, and comfortable working as part of a small team

Compensation and Benefits

  • $20–$25 per hour, depending on experience
  • Full-time, 40 hours per week
  • Two weeks paid vacation annually
  • Five paid sick days annually
