Enjoy preparing great food and helping a team succeed? The Local Market is looking for a Deli Lead to help keep our deli running smoothly, our food fresh, and our customers coming back!

In this hands-on role, you’ll partner with the Store Manager to oversee daily deli operations, guide and train associates, and maintain a clean, organized, and welcoming department. From preparing breakfast favorites to keeping lunch service moving, you’ll lead by example and help your team deliver quality food and friendly service.

What You’ll Be Doing

• Lead daily deli operations: Coordinate food preparation, cooking, stocking, cleaning, and opening and closing routines.
• Support and develop your team: Train and coach deli associates, assign daily tasks, and communicate clear expectations.
• Deliver excellent customer service: Greet customers, assist with orders, answer questions, and address concerns courteously.
• Maintain food quality and presentation: Ensure food is prepared consistently, displays are appealing, and hot bar and grab-and-go items stay stocked.
• Make food safety a daily priority: Reinforce proper handwashing, glove use, hair restraints, labeling, date coding, temperature checks, food storage, and sanitation practices.
• Manage inventory and ordering: Monitor product levels, assist with ordering and delivery checks, rotate stock, and record waste to help reduce spoilage.
• Help meet department goals: Support sales, labor, inventory, and waste-control goals through thoughtful planning and daily follow-through.
• Keep the deli clean and safe: Follow cleaning schedules, ensure equipment and work areas are maintained, and promptly address or report unsafe conditions.
• Partner with store leadership: Keep the Store Manager informed about staffing needs, training opportunities, equipment concerns, and department performance.
• Support company standards: Help prepare for food-safety inspections and company audits, and follow through on needed improvements.

What We’re Looking For

• Must be at least 18 years old.
• Food-service, deli, restaurant, or similar experience preferred.
• Previous leadership or team-training experience preferred.
• Friendly, dependable, and committed to excellent customer service.
• Ability to prioritize tasks and keep a team organized in a fast-paced environment.
• Clear communication skills and a respectful, supportive approach to working with others.
• Good judgment and a practical approach to solving problems.
• Willingness to work alongside associates and help wherever needed.
• Commitment to food safety, cleanliness, and company procedures.
• High school diploma or equivalent preferred.

Hands-on training is provided to help you learn our products, procedures, and expectations.

Physical and Work Requirements

This position requires standing and walking for extended periods and frequently bending, reaching, stooping, twisting, and using your hands to operate equipment, prepare food, stock products, and complete cleaning tasks. Duties may require lifting, carrying, pushing, or pulling food products, merchandise, supplies, trash, and equipment.

Team members may be exposed to hot cooking equipment, refrigerated areas, food allergens, cleaning products, and wet or slippery surfaces. Deli employees must wear non-slip shoes and follow applicable food-safety, sanitation, glove-use, and hair-restraint requirements.
