Schedule: M-F 7:30am - 4pm, 52 weeks/year
Position Overview:
The Director of Finance is responsible for overseeing all financial operations of Little Light House, including processing donations, managing payables, coordinating the audit process, and handling month-end and year-end close. This role ensures the financial integrity of the organization through strong systems, compliance, and reporting.
The Director of Finance clearly understands and embraces that they are a part of Little Light House, a Christian Development Center with Biblical core values, whose mission is to glorify God by improving the quality of life for children with special needs, their families, and communities.
Key Responsibilities
Payables:
Post and pay all weekly invoices.
Oversee collection of POs for monthly credit card bills.
Ensure all necessary purchase orders, receipts, and W9s are collected.
Receivables:
Process ACH donations semimonthly.
Invoice third parties when applicable (TJL, TU, etc.).
Complete bank transfers to ensure funds are in appropriate accounts for payroll, payables, etc.
Month End Close:
Complete all processes necessary for month end close: posting deposits, expenses, bank transfers, payroll, prepaid amortizations, accrued interest earned, accrued liabilities, releases from restricted funds, etc. Reconcile all bank accounts to General Ledger.
Prepare monthly financial reports including Cash Snapshot, Balance Sheet, Statement of Activities, YTD Restricted Fund Activity, PTD Restricted Fund Activity, Investment Statements, Financial Review.
Complete Due to/Due Froms to ensure cash is balanced between branches.
Communicate monthly financials to Leadership Team and Finance Committee.
Host monthly Finance Committee meetings.
Present financials at Board of Director’s meetings.
Year End Close:
Issue NEC-1099 forms for all appropriate vendors at calendar year end.
Host annual Title Holding Co meetings to approve liability insurance renewals.
Annual Audit:
Manage the annual audit process with an independent auditor: fixed asset depreciation, accruals, gift in kind, program allocations.
Facilitate completion of 990 with Finance Committee and auditor.
Annual Budget:
Facilitate preparation of annual budget by providing historical data, establishing timeline with key players.
Train and support department leaders in understanding and managing their budgets.
Compliance & Oversight
Ensure compliance with all federal, state, and local nonprofit financial regulations.
Maintain internal controls and financial policies to safeguard organizational assets.
Serve as liaison with banks, auditors, and regulatory bodies.
Leadership & Collaboration
Supervise and support finance/accounting staff and volunteers.
Partner with development and fundraising teams to track donor-restricted funds and ensure proper use and reporting.
Provide financial insights to the Senior Leadership Team to guide organizational strategy.
Technology & Systems
Oversee accounting software and financial systems, ensuring accuracy and efficiency.
Recommend and implement process improvements and automation where appropriate.
Events
Support financial and registration processes for major fund-raising events.
Qualifications
Education & Experience
Bachelor's degree in finance or accounting (Master’s degree preferred).
5 years of experience in finance/accounting.
2 years of experience in leadership/management.

Working Conditions
Full-time, exempt position.
Occasional evening and weekend hours required for fundraising events.
