With a mission to educate and prepare individuals for life, The Light House is a non-profit located in Southeastern Connecticut specializing in disabilities services and support. The Light House is seeking a full time Regional Employment Specialist to work with individuals with intellectual/developmental disabilities in our LH Works program. LH Works is a vocational training program dedicated to helping job seekers develop the skills to find and maintain competitive employment.

In this position you will be providing mentoring, support and on the job training to individuals with differing abilities. The Employment Specialist is responsible for working closely with our job seekers to provide intensive on the job training.

The ideal candidate will be a caring and creative self –starter with a passion for making a difference in people’s lives. We are looking for candidates who can work independently and have excellent verbal and written communication skills.

Key Responsibilities include:

· Work with job seekers on resume writing and development along with practicing interview prep and providing vocational counseling to assist job seekers in identifying a career path

· Provide transportation for assigned job seekers in accordance with The Light House’s safe driving policies and practices

· Provide job training and job coaching to job seekers

· Maintain medical, social and programmatic files by recording each person’s progress and documenting other required information

· Develop and maintain positive relationships with job seekers, families, co- workers and other community members

Requirements:

· High school diploma or GED required, Bachelor degree in related field preferred

· Experience working with individuals with disabilities is preferred but not required, as long as you have the heart and ability to show compassion, we will train you

· Any certifications necessary for the position will be paid for and coordinated through The Light House

· Must possess a valid Connecticut driver’s license, have an acceptable driving history and be able to utilize your own vehicle for Light House business as defined by Light House’s policy

· All employees are required to be "screened through DDS and DCF abuse and neglect registries as well as receive fingerprinting for criminal background checks

Working conditions:
Hours: Monday through Friday approximately between the hours of 7-3

Must be able to sit, stand and walk at an assigned location(s) and work for extended periods of time; bend/stoop, kneel and balance frequently; climb, reach above shoulder level; push/pull, squat and crouch occasionally; with assistance, lift, carry and position individuals of various weight. Must be able to lift and carry up to 50 pounds occasionally. Must be able to drive multi-passenger vehicles for extended periods throughout the day. Must have clean driving history.
