Litigation Attorney

The Legacy Firm
Southfield, MI Full Time
POSTED ON 7/29/2026
AVAILABLE BEFORE 8/27/2026

Real litigation work—trials, motion practice, and contested hearings—without the hours that usually come attached. A 40-hour week. Thirty billable hours. We mean it.

The Legacy Law Firm is a two-attorney litigation firm in Southfield. About 80% of our work is litigation: will and trust contests, guardianship and conservatorship disputes, fiduciary litigation, and creditor claims, with estate planning and administration rounding out the docket.

We're hiring an experienced litigator to take primary responsibility for a substantial docket of litigation matters. There's no expectation that you bring a book of business or develop your own clients—the work is here. You'll lead the day-to-day handling of your cases and client relationships, with my support on overall strategy, difficult issues, and key decisions. Expect about one to two trials a year and motion practice every month.

What We're Looking For

  • Licensed to practice law and in good standing in Michigan.
  • Ideally, 10 or more years in practice with substantial litigation experience. We'll consider candidates with five to ten years depending on their experience.
  • Genuine courtroom comfort: motions, hearings, evidentiary practice, and trial.
  • Strong, natural litigation instincts—you read a case, a room, and opposing counsel well, and you know when to push and when to settle.
  • Able to take primary responsibility for assigned matters while knowing when to seek input or collaborate on strategy.
  • Probate experience is a plus, not a requirement. If it's new to you, we're glad to teach the procedure.
  • Good with people. Our clients are often grieving, elderly, or in the middle of a family conflict. How you treat them matters as much as how you handle the file.

What We Offer

  • A $120,000 base salary, with additional compensation based on experience—bring more to the table, and we'll recognize it.
  • 401(k) and paid time off.
  • A 40-hour workweek with a target of 30 billable hours per week. That is the actual expectation, not a recruiting line. No nights, no weekends.
  • A real support team. Five paralegals and support staff handle intake, scheduling, and document preparation. We also help track your billable time, so your day goes to practicing law, not paperwork.
  • Flexibility we mean. Kids, appointments, aging parents—life happens. We'd rather have you for ten years at a sustainable pace than two at a punishing one.
  • Modern systems. Our practice-management, billing, and document-workflow systems actually work. You won't be fighting the software.

Who Would Be Good in This Role?

A litigator who's excellent at the work and wants a sane schedule to go with it.

Whether you're leaving a firm that asked too much, coming back after time away, or winding down your own practice without stopping entirely—if you want to do good work for good people and still have a life, we should talk.
