Cook / Kitchen & Light Cleaning Staff
Position Summary:
The Cook / Kitchen Assistant & Light Cleaning Staff member is responsible for preparing and serving nutritious meals and snacks to children, maintaining a clean and sanitary kitchen, and assisting with light cleaning duties throughout the daycare center. This position plays an important role in supporting a safe, healthy, and welcoming environment for children and staff.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:Food Preparation and Kitchen Duties
- Prepare and serve breakfast, lunch, and afternoon snacks according to CACFP guidelines and center menus.
- Ensure meals meet nutritional requirements and accommodate allergies or dietary restrictions.
- Maintain accurate food production and meal count records.
- Store food properly and monitor expiration dates.
- Receive and organize food deliveries and supplies.
- Clean and sanitize kitchen equipment, dishes, and food preparation areas.
- Follow all health, safety, and sanitation regulations.
Light Cleaning Duties
- Sweep, mop, and sanitize floors in common areas, classrooms, bathrooms, and kitchen.
- Clean and disinfect tables, chairs, counters, and high-touch surfaces.
- Empty trash and replace liners throughout the center.
- Restock paper towels, soap, toilet paper, and cleaning supplies.
- Help maintain a clean, organized, and welcoming environment.
- Report maintenance, safety, or sanitation concerns to the Director.
General Responsibilities
- Follow all state licensing regulations and center policies.
- Maintain confidentiality regarding children, families, and staff.
- Work cooperatively with the Director and teaching staff.
- Attend required staff meetings and training sessions.
- Maintain a positive and professional attitude.
Qualifications:
- High school diploma or GED preferred.
- Previous experience in food service, childcare, janitorial, or housekeeping work preferred.
- Ability to lift up to 40 pounds.
- Ability to stand, bend, and move throughout the workday.
- Must pass all required background checks and clearances.
- Food Handler's Certification preferred (or willingness to obtain).
