About Walden School:

Walden School is a nationally-recognized residential therapeutic and education program for deaf children and youth ages 8 to 22 who have often experienced significant adverse childhood events as well as language deprivation.


POSITION SUMMARY:

The Program Director is responsible for the management of child care services within his/her designated program. This includes direct supervision of the child care supervisors; assurance of effective supervision for all child care workers; development and implementation of structures, procedures, and interventions that meet the needs of students and are consistent with program philosophy; and oversight of programming to ensure safe and effective service delivery.

FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

MANAGEMENT

Develop and implement structures that keep students safe and provide them with opportunities for learning, healing, personal growth and enjoyment. 


Oversee service delivery to ensure the therapeutic needs of students are being met in the milieu. 


Maintain close contact with parents and guardians to obtain their input regarding the needs of their child and to keep them informed of services and progress. 


Ensure that all students have Individualized Service Plans twice a year that are in compliance with regulations of the Massachusetts Department of Early Education and Care. 


Oversee writing of and review of Critical Incident Reports for residential shifts. 


Perform other tasks as assigned by the Department Supervisor and/or Program Leader.


SUPERVISION

Provide direct supervision to the child care supervisors; ensure that structures, policies and procedures are being implemented. 


Provide direct supervision to the Recreation Specialist and the Independent Living Skills Specialist and ensure that effective plans are being implemented.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Human Services or related field required, Master’s degree preferred 
  • Two years direct care and supervisory experience in residential treatment; management experience in an educational or residential program serving Deaf children with emotional/behavioral challenges
  • A minimum of conversational fluency in American Sign Language required, with native, or near-native ASL fluency preferred
  • ASL Classes may be required based on ASL fluency 
  • Verbal and written communication at sufficient levels to ensure effective and appropriate communication and report writing
  • Some early evening hours are required
  • Must maintain a valid driver’s license and an acceptable driving record when driving students or performing work-related duties
  • Willingness to transport students in TLC vehicles

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

Must be physically able to perform all duties of the job including frequent lifting up to 50 pounds, bending, reaching above shoulder level, climbing stairs, pulling, typing, prolonged standing or sitting, and restraining a dysregulated student when necessary.
