What are the responsibilities and job description for the Lead Safety Organizer position at The Leaguers Inc?
PRIMARY JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:
The position is responsible for working with The Columbia University Research Team to conduct focus groups with families residing in Newark and Irvington.
- The position will be the lead staff person working with The Leaguers collaboration with Columbia University to carry out the scope of session to research lead based paint in households with Pregnant women and young children;
- Schedule and conduct pubic meetings in Newark and Irvington to raise awareness of the risk associated by lead based paint and lead based paint in dust and how the risk can be reduced;
- Encourage participants to participate in the testing program;
- Conduct group training sessions for test kit users;
- Conduct focus groups with a Columbia University Research Assistant and a University Professor;
- Make appointments with medical offices, clinics and hospitals that are involved in prenatal and pediatric care by participants residing in Newark and Irvington;
- Collect dust samples to verify findings by the test kit;
- Facilitate setting up appointments for further inspections of any homes with high results by the Newark and Irvington Health Departments.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Bachelor’s Degree in Sociology, Psychology, Education or related field;
- A minimum of three (3) years working in an urban community, including Newark, Irvington, East Orange;
- A minimum of three (3) years interacting with pregnant women and families with pre-school age children;
- Must be willing to obtain a Certification as a PB Inspector and Assessor by May 2026.
- Residents of Newark NJ or Irvington NJ is a plus.
