Overview
The Law Office of Patrick Kennedy, PLLC is seeking a dedicated and detail-oriented Legal Assistant. Responsibilities
- Assist attorneys with case preparation and management, ensuring all deadlines are met.
- Conduct legal research using platforms such as Westlaw, Google Scholar, public filing systems, and local statutes.
- Draft, review, and organize legal documents under the supervision of attorneys, ensuring accuracy and compliance with relevant laws.
- Interview clients, potential clients, and witnesses to gather pertinent information for cases.
- Manage project timelines and coordinate tasks among team members.
- Maintain organized case files and documentation for easy access by attorneys.
- Maintain confidentiality and handle sensitive legal and client information with discretion.
- Stay updated on changes in laws and regulations relevant to the practice areas.
- Provide administrative support, including scheduling appointments and managing correspondence.
- Assist with other administrative duties as assigned from time to time. This will include but not be limited to ordering supplies, handling phone calls, and speaking with clients, court staff, and outside attorneys regarding client matters, and other similar tasks as directed by the supervising attorney.
Requirements
- Strong skills in legal research and document review.
- Proficiency in project management techniques to effectively handle multiple cases simultaneously.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, and Adobe Acrobat are required.
- Excellent interviewing skills to gather information from clients and witnesses.
- Strong attention to detail, with exceptional organizational skills.
- Ability to work under occasional pressure and ability to adhere to deadlines.
- Ability to work independently as well as collaboratively within a team environment
Preferences
- Prior experience as a Legal Assistant or in a similar role within a law firm or legal department is a plus.
- Familiarity with civil litigation, including calendaring and filing procedures in federal and Minnesota district court and the Minnesota Court of Appeals is preferred.
- Working knowledge of legal research tools such as Westlaw.
- Ability to speak or communicate in a second language in addition to English, such as Spanish, Hmoob/Hmong, Somali, Arabic, French, Russian, American Sign Language, or other language is preferred but not necessary.
