The Law Group of Northwest Arkansas PLLC (TLGNWA) is a women-owned small business recognized for breaking down boundaries in traditionally male-dominated legal practice areas. TLGNWA lawyers are licensed in six states and practice in multiple areas of the law, including agricultural & food law, banking law, business law, criminal law, employment law, domestic and family law, and estate planning.

TLGNWA is seeking Law Clerks to join our growing practice. Law Clerk candidates should be in their 1L or 2L year with a desire to gain real world, valuable law firm experience through a commitment of at least one year. Law Clerks should have excellent research, writing, and organizational skills, and a working knowledge of existing law in order to clearly articulate legal information. Top candidates will demonstrate attention to detail and accuracy as well as exceptional time management and listening skills. TLGNWA’s clerkship program provides a comprehensive and immersive plan for clerks in a small, but busy, local law firm.

As a TLGNWA Law Clerk, you will be responsible for assisting our lawyers by conducting and preparing legal analysis, research, motion drafts, memorandums, discovery responses, deposition summaries, and ensuring proper readiness for the courtroom. Law Clerks may also be asked to complete errands outside the office, such as the retrieval and delivery of legal documents, and filing documents at the courthouse. In addition to assisting our lawyers, TLGNWA Law Clerks will also assist with administrative matters, including performing and processing potential client intakes and responses, answering telephones, scanning and archiving current and former client files, and acting as back up for our Front Desk Administrator. Other duties may be assigned as needed.

Primary Role & Function:

  • Assist lawyers with their primary duties
  • Strategize, create, and post social media and blog content as directed by Firm partners and office manager
  • Accurately and timely enter and approve all hours worked in Firm database
  • Accurately and timely enter and approve all billable work and client expenses in Firm database
  • Interpret laws, rulings, and regulations for specific cases
  • Conduct legal research and analysis and prepare memorandum regarding same
  • Prepare memoranda and briefs with accurate analyses and case citations
  • Prepare first drafts of discovery responses and review and organize discovery documents
  • Review documents to determine responsiveness
  • Provide assistance prior to and during court proceedings, depositions, and client meetings; document same
  • Summarize deposition and hearing transcripts
  • Ensure that related case documents are properly ordered and available on the Firm’s document management system
  • Maintain and update law libraries, literature, and documentation
  • Research and create blog content as directed by Firm’s Operations Director
  • Conduct intake interviews and properly document same
  • Act as Front Desk Administrator back up
  • Communicate project updates and status with lawyers
  • Scan and archive current and former client files
  • Assist with Firm errands, as needed
  • Provide weekly summary of projects and anticipated work for following week

Qualifications and requirements

· Bachelor’s degree

· Currently attending an accredited law school

· Prior work experience in a legal environment is preferred

· Excellent interpersonal and writing skills

· Fantastic document management skills

· Organized with strong conceptual and research skills

· Flexible schedule with a commitment of one year

· Critical thinker who displays accuracy and attention to detail

· Working comprehension of the law

· Ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines

· Ability to work independently and as part of a team

· Bilingual (Spanish and English) preferred

· Reliable transportation to and from TLGNWA

Position Type/Expected Hours of Work:

This is a part-time, hourly position with an expectation of 10-20 hours per work week and additional after-hours time for events and activities as needed.

Travel:

This position requires occasional local travel and a valid driver’s license.
