Rural Healthcare Coder
Location: Fully Remote
Employment Type: Contract-to-Hire
Compensation: Up to $30/hour
Benefits: Contractors have the opportunity to enroll in benefits including medical, dental, and vision insurance.

LaSalle Network is partnering with a rapidly growing healthcare organization that supports Rural Health Clinics (RHCs) and Critical Access Hospitals (CAHs) nationwide through accurate, compliant, high-quality medical coding services.

As a Rural Healthcare Coder, you will ensure precise code assignment for complex rural healthcare encounters. You'll interpret clinical documentation, assign and sequence ICD-10-CM, CPT, and HCPCS codes, and ensure compliance with federal and state regulations specific to RHC and CAH environments. You'll maintain exceptional data accuracy while collaborating with providers to resolve any documentation gaps or inconsistencies.

If you are a detail-driven coding expert with direct RHC/CAH coding experience, this opportunity allows you to contribute to improved reimbursement accuracy and care access in underserved rural communities.

What You'll Do:

  • Review and assign ICD-10-CM, CPT, and HCPCS codes for RHC and CAH patient encounters
  • Validate documentation accuracy and support compliant code sequencing
  • Apply correct E/M levels using 1995 guidelines for rural clinic and hospital settings
  • Utilize coding expertise for swing beds, telehealth services, specialty visits, and outpatient encounters
  • Apply appropriate modifiers for rural-specific coding requirements
  • Perform quality checks to maintain a 95% coding accuracy standard
  • Query providers when documentation is unclear, incomplete, or inconsistent
  • Ensure coding strictly aligns with ethical compliance - no up-coding or unsupported charges
  • Stay current with RHC/CAH and federal regulations affecting rural healthcare coding

What You'll Bring:

  • Must have: Strong, hands-on RHC and/or Critical Access Hospital coding experience
  • 2 years of medical coding experience with CPT, ICD-10-CM, HCPCS, and E/M codes
  • Active CPC or CCS certification (AHIMA or AAPC) REQUIRED
  • Expertise in reading and interpreting clinical documentation across multiple specialties
  • Understanding of anatomical, clinical, and procedural terminology to support accurate coding
  • Strong communication skills and ability to collaborate with providers

What's in It for You:

  • 100% remote - support rural healthcare accessibility from anywhere
  • Work with a collaborative, mission-focused coding team
  • Continued professional development and industry learning
  • A chance to directly strengthen revenue integrity for rural communities in need

Ready to make an impact in a role where accuracy strengthens healthcare access for underserved patients? Bring your rural healthcare expertise to a mission-driven team that is growing and needs you ASAP!
