Position Summary

The Interface Manager is responsible for planning, coordinating, and managing all technical, contractual, and organizational interfaces between the multiple prime contractors and the Owner to ensure the successful integration, installation, commissioning, and operation of the pumped storage facility. The role is critical to ensure seamless integration between:

  • Main Civil Works Contractor
  • Electromechanical Contractor (known as OEM Original Electromechanical Manufacturer)
  • Step-Up Transformer (GSU) supply and integration scope
  • Gas Insulated Switchgear (GIS) supplied as Owner-Furnished Equipment and installed by the Civil Contractor
  • Owner-Furnished Equipment (OFE) and Work by Others
  • Transmission system, grid operator, and commissioning entities

The Interface Manager ensures that all physical, functional, schedule, and contractual interfaces are clearly defined during the Conformance and Alignment Phase (1st August 2026 to 30 September 2027) and managed, and controlled throughout engineering, procurement, construction, commissioning, and handover phases (1st October 2027 to 31st December 2035).

Key Responsibilities

A. Interface Management Strategy and Planning

  • Develop and implement the Project Interface Management Plan (IMP) in accordance with project contractual requirements; this is required within 45 days of the award of the Final Notice To Proceed (FNTP).
  • Establish and maintain the Interface Register covering all internal and external interfaces.
  • Define interface boundaries, responsibilities, and deliverables among the four prime contracts and Owner-furnished equipment.
  • Establish procedures for:
    • Interface identification /control / documentation and tracking / change management/ risk management

B. Technical Interface Coordination

Coordinate all technical interfaces between:

Civil Works Contractor and E&M Contractor

Civil Works Contractor and GIS Installation (Owner-Furnished Equipment)

GSU Transformers Integration

E&M Contractor and Electrical Systems

Owner Furnished Equipment and Contractors

C. Contractual Interface Management

  • Ensure compliance with contractual interface obligations defined in each contract.
  • Clarify scope boundaries to avoid gaps and overlaps.Support resolution of contractual interface disputes.
  • Ensure contractors fulfill obligations related to:
    • Installation of Owner Furnished Equipment (GIS, GSUs, OEM elements)
    • Integration and commissioning of multi-contract systems
  • Support commercial and claims teams with interface-related claims analysis.

D. Schedule and Construction Interface Coordination

  • Ensure alignment of engineering, procurement, construction, and commissioning schedules across contractors.
  • Identify and mitigate interface-related schedule risks.
  • Coordinate installation sequences between contractors.
  • Ensure readiness for equipment installation (civil readiness, access, utilities, lifting systems).

E. Commissioning and Operational Integration

Coordinate commissioning interfaces including:

  • Mechanical completion coordination
  • Pre-commissioning and commissioning sequences
  • Integrated system testing
  • Grid synchronization interfaces
  • SCADA and control system integration
  • Multi-contractor commissioning coordination

Ensure seamless transition from construction to operational readiness.

F. Interface Documentation and Control

Develop and maintain:

  • Interface Register
  • Interface Control Documents (ICDs)
  • Interface matrices
  • Interface agreements between contractors
  • Interface meeting minutes and action trackers
  • Technical interface drawings and boundary drawings

Ensure all interface requirements are clearly documented, tracked, and closed.

G. Risk Management

Identify, assess, and mitigate interface-related risks, including:

  • Physical interface conflicts
  • Installation sequence conflicts
  • Responsibility gaps or overlaps
  • Schedule conflicts
  • Integration risks affecting commissioning and operation Report interface risks regularly to Project Management.

Required Qualifications and Experience

Bachelor's or master's degree in engineering:

  • Mechanical Engineering
  • Electrical Engineering
  • Civil Engineering
  • or equivalent

Minimum:

  • 10-15 years of experience in large infrastructure or power projects with Electromechanical integration
  • Minimum 5 years in interface management roles
  • Experience with hydropower or pumped storage projects preferred

Strong experience with:

  • Multi-contract EPC or multi-prime contracting environments
  • Pump/Turbine and * High voltage electrical systems and substations
  • Civil-electromechanical integration

Preferred experience with projects exceeding 1000 MW.

Required Competencies

Technical Competencies

  • Understanding of hydropower systems integration
  • Understanding of high voltage substations and GIS systems
  • Knowledge of mechanical and electrical equipment installation
  • Understanding of EPC contracting models
  • Knowledge of commissioning processes

Management Competencies

  • Strong coordination and leadership skills
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Strong problem-solving capability
  • Ability to work across multiple contractors and stakeholders
  • Ability to manage complex technical interfaces
