The Landsby is a top-rated upscale boutique hotel located in the heart of Solvang, California. The property was recently refreshed and features 51 rooms, a lively onsite bar and full-service restaurant, and event space fit for both corporate and social gatherings. Position Summary
The General Manager is a hands-on, highly visible leader responsible for overseeing all day-to-day operations of the hotel, bar, and restaurant. This role drives guest satisfaction, team engagement, financial performance, and community relationships. The ideal candidate brings a strong food and beverage background, is front-facing and personable, excels at training and communication, is well versed on best practices and compliance, and is comfortable handling conflict with professionalism and care.
Key Responsibilities
Reporting Structure
- Report, communicate, and collaborate with Ownership regularly
- Oversee all aspects of operations across departments
- Manage, support, and coach department heads
- Represent property within the community and with stakeholders
- Employee Relations and Talent Development
- Document employee issues in a timely and detailed manner.
- Address employee concerns and disputes in partnership with Human Resources.
- Coach team members, evaluate performance, and field employee complaints
- Ensure compliance with all applicable employment and safety laws and regulations and apply best practices
- Recruit, hire, and retain a high-performing team
Guest Experience & Community Engagement
- Be highly interactive with guests; anticipate needs, resolve issues promptly, and elevate the overall experience.
- Conduct property walks multiple times a day to ensure property is in excellent condition.
- Maintain excellent online reputation scores; respond to reviews and feedback.
- Represent the property with local partners, chambers, wineries, and community organizations to drive business and brand awareness.
Food & Beverage Operations
- Oversee bar and restaurant performance, guest experience, service standards, and menu development.
- Ensure tight cost controls (COGS, labor, waste), inventory accuracy, and compliance with health and safety standards.
Hotel Operations
- Oversee front office, housekeeping, sales, and maintenance for consistent standards and efficiency.
- Ensure SOPs are current and followed; champion preventive maintenance and asset care.
- Maintain compliance with all regulations (health, safety, ABC, ADA, fire/life safety).
- Monitor payroll, compliance paperwork, vendor contracts, and purchasing.
Financial & Revenue Management
- Own the P&L; develop and manage budgets, forecasts, and cashflow.
- Partner with revenue management on pricing, distribution, and demand strategies aligned to seasonal patterns.
- Drive RevPAR, F&B covers and check averages, labor productivity, and profitability targets.
Sales and Marketing
- Collaborate with marketing team on local and digital marketing initiatives, packages, and events.
- Work with Director of Sales to establish pricing, drive group business, and manage event operations.
Qualifications
- Minimum 3 years of experience as General Manager, ideally at a boutique hotel/property.
- Solid financial acumen: budgeting, forecasting, labor management, cost controls, and P&L ownership is paramount.
- Strong food & beverage background with proven results managing bar and restaurant operations highly preferred
- Hands-on, flexible leader who thrives on the floor and engages directly with guests and team members.
- Confident handling conflict; skilled in de-escalation and fair, timely resolution.
- Excellent communicator (verbal, written, and interpersonal)
- Knowledge of hospitality regulations, safety, ABC compliance, and ADA best practices.
- Bilingual is a huge plus (Spanish/English).
- Familiarity with the Santa Ynez Valley/Solvang market is an asset.
