Job Summary
We are seeking an experienced, dependable Chef to join our culinary team in Ketchikan, Alaska. This is a hands-on leadership position for someone who enjoys working alongside the kitchen team while maintaining high standards for food quality, consistency, presentation, sanitation, and efficiency.
The Chef will assist with day-to-day kitchen operations, supervise and support culinary staff, execute menu items to established standards, and help ensure a positive and productive kitchen environment.
Responsibilities
- Prepare and oversee the preparation of high-quality menu items according to established recipes, portions, and presentation standards.
- Provide hands-on leadership during service and work alongside the culinary team as needed, at times as a strong Sous Chef.
- Supervise, train, coach, and support cooks and other kitchen employees.
- Ensure consistency in food quality, taste, temperature, portioning, and presentation.
- Assist with daily kitchen opening, closing, prep, and service procedures.
- Monitor food production and coordinate timing to ensure efficient service.
- Assist with inventory, ordering, receiving, product rotation, and proper storage.
- Maintain appropriate food and labor cost controls while minimizing waste.
- Ensure compliance with food safety, sanitation, health department, and workplace safety requirements.
- Maintain a clean, organized, and professional kitchen.
- Communicate effectively with culinary leadership, restaurant management, and front-of-house teams.
- Assist with banquets, catering, special events, and high-volume service as needed.
- Help identify operational challenges and implement practical solutions.
- Lead by example and contribute to a respectful, accountable, team-oriented workplace.
- Perform other culinary and operational duties as assigned.
Experience
- Previous professional cooking experience required.
- Prior Chef, Sous Chef, Lead Cook, or kitchen supervisory experience strongly preferred.
- Strong knowledge of cooking techniques, food preparation, sanitation, and kitchen organization.
- Ability to lead and motivate a diverse culinary team.
- Strong communication, organization, and time-management skills.
- Ability to remain calm and effective during high-volume service.
- Dependable, flexible, and willing to work a varied schedule including mornings, evenings, weekends, and holidays.
- Alaska Food Worker Card required or ability to obtain upon hire.
- Culinary degree or formal culinary training is a plus, but equivalent professional experience will be considered.
Physical Requirements
Must be able to stand and work for extended periods, bend, reach, lift and carry up to 50 pounds, and work safely around commercial kitchen equipment, heat, steam, and refrigerated areas.
Pay: $25.00 - $30.00 per hour
