Kids Ministry Pastor/Director Job Description
Purpose
The Kids Ministry Pastor/Director provides spiritual leadership, coordination, and operational oversight for Restoration Church’s Children’s Ministry (Birth–4th Grade). This role exists to cultivate a safe, welcoming, and spiritually rich environment where children encounter Jesus, parents feel supported and confident, and volunteers are equipped to serve with clarity and joy.
While this role includes administrative and organizational responsibilities, it is primarily a ministry leadership position that requires relational presence, spiritual maturity, and hands-on engagement with children, families, and volunteers.
Accountability
The Kids Ministry Pastor/Director reports to the Executive Pastor of Ministries and works collaboratively with church staff, volunteers, and parents.

Key Results Areas
1. Sunday Services & Kids Ministry Operations
The Kids Ministry Pastor/Director is primarily responsible for the planning, leadership, and execution of all Sunday Kids Ministry services (Birth–4th Grade).
- Oversee all of kids ministry during Sunday services to ensure safety, excellence, and spiritual health
- Ensure classrooms are properly staffed, prepared, supplied, and equipped prior to each serviceServe as the primary on-site leader for Kids Ministry on Sundays, acting as the point person for volunteers, parents, and staff
- Troubleshoot and resolve staffing, behavioral, logistical, or safety issues in real time
- Ensure appropriate volunteer-to-child ratios are met and maintained in accordance with California regulations and church safety policies
- Maintain a calm, welcoming, and spiritually grounded environment for children, families, and volunteers
2. Volunteer Leadership, Development & Engagement
Lead, develop, and sustain a healthy, growing volunteer team for the Kids Ministry department.
- Recruit, onboard, train, schedule, and lead all Kids Ministry volunteers
- Build and maintain a consistent volunteer pipeline to ensure adequate coverage for all services and programs
- Ensure volunteers are engaged, supported, and serving within clear roles and expectations
- Develop and implement a volunteer onboarding process, including interviews, training, and multiple relational touchpoints
- Maintain updated volunteer rosters, schedules, and communications within Subsplash and scheduling platforms
- Send weekly volunteer communications and timely service reminders
- Conduct regular check-ins with volunteers to encourage retention, growth, and accountability
- Celebrate volunteer milestones and foster a strong sense of team culture and community
- Address volunteer performance, relational issues, or concerns in a professional, compassionate, and timely manner
3. Child Safety, Compliance & Mandated Reporting
- Ensure all Kids Ministry environments operate in full compliance with Restoration Church policies and California child safety and mandated reporter requirements.
- Enforce child safety policies, including check-in/check-out procedures, supervision standards, and age-appropriate classroom ratios at all times.
- Verify that all Kids Ministry volunteers and staff complete required background checks, safety onboarding, and mandated reporter training prior to serving and at regular intervals thereafter.
- Train and equip volunteers and staff to recognize signs of abuse or neglect and to understand their legal responsibilities as mandated reporters, including proper CPS reporting procedures under California law.
- Serve as the primary point of contact for safety concerns, incidents, or policy questions within Kids Ministry environments.
- Ensure all injuries, behavioral concerns, safety issues, or suspected abuse are documented accurately and promptly using approved incident report processes.
- Ensure suspected abuse or neglect is reported immediately to appropriate authorities in accordance with California law, in addition to internal documentation and leadership notification.
- Maintain confidentiality, professionalism, and discretion when handling sensitive incidents or reports.
- Partner with church leadership to review incidents, identify patterns, and strengthen safety practices, training, or supervision as needed.
4. Curriculum Oversight & Program Alignment
Oversee and support the spiritual formation of children through curriculum leadership and program consistency.
- Oversee the selection, implementation, and execution of Kids Ministry curriculum
- Ensure curriculum is biblically sound, age-appropriate, engaging, and aligned with Restoration Church’s values
- Equip and support volunteers to teach curriculum effectively and confidently
- Ensure curriculum materials and classroom resources are prepared in advance
- Evaluate curriculum effectiveness and recommend adjustments as needed
5. Event, Program & Ministry Logistics
Plan and coordinate Kids Ministry events, programs, and trainings in alignment with ministry goals.
- Plan and oversee kids ministry events, classes, camps, and special services
- Develop event plans including timelines, task delegation, and approved budgets
- Coordinate facilities, rooms, supplies, and equipment for kids ministry activities
- Work with vendors, staff, and volunteers to execute events efficiently
- Oversee event registrations and collaborate with operations to ensure a smooth parent experience
- Troubleshoot and resolve issues during events or services
6. Parent Communication & Family Engagement
Serve as a trusted, visible, and communicative leader for parents and caregivers.
- Act as the primary point of contact for parents within Kids Ministry
- Communicate clearly regarding schedules, curriculum, policies, events, and expectations
- Respond to parent questions or concerns with professionalism, empathy, and discretion
- Partner with parents to support the spiritual growth, safety, and well-being of their children
- Foster a culture where families feel informed, supported, and confident in the Kids Ministry
7. Data, Metrics & Follow-Up
Support healthy ministry growth through accurate tracking and follow-up systems.
- Maintain accurate records of children, families, and volunteers in Subsplash
- Track attendance and participation metrics for services and events
- Ensure dashboards and reports are updated in a timely manner
- Develop and execute follow-up systems for new families and first-time attendees
- Collaborate with leadership to ensure no child or family is overlooked
8. Ministry Presence & Pastoral Leadership
- Provide spiritual leadership and relational care within Kids Ministry spaces.
- Serve as a consistent, spiritually grounded presence within Kids Ministry environments
- Foster a culture of safety, care, discernment, and approachability
- Be available to listen, pray, and support children, volunteers, and families as needed
- Collaborate with pastoral leadership when deeper care or intervention is required
- Model Christ-centered leadership, humility, and integrity
Qualifications:
- Demonstrated commitment to the mission, vision, and values of Restoration Church.
- Proven experience leading teams, ministries, volunteers, and employees; prior experience serving as a Kids Pastor or Kids Ministry Director strongly preferred.
- Demonstrated ability to coordinate events, oversee administrative functions, and support ministry operations effectively.
- Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines.
- Excellent interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills.
- Familiarity with church management software and digital tools (e.g., Subsplash) preferred.
- Ability to thrive in a collaborative, fast-paced ministry environment.
- Genuine passion for partnering with students, families, and volunteers to foster growth and connection.

Employment Classification & Compensation
- Employment Status: Part-Time, Non-Exempt
- Expected Hours: 20-25 hours per week
- Compensation: $18–$20 per hour, depending on experience
- Work hours include Sundays and occasional evenings or special events, with scheduling communicated in advance whenever possible.
